    Gunsmithing Gre-tan reamer holder

On mine, The threads are 2.5” long under the head.

    Gunsmithing AR10 bipod mounting

I wouldn’t want a bipod attached to a free floated barrel. It would be too easy to cause poi shift simply by loading the bipod. I would look toward mounting the pic rail to the bottom of the hand guard in some fashion.

    Favorite Rifle Cases

I’ve been using the Triad Precision Rifle Carry soft case for years. It has held up very well.

    Vortex Razor HD 4000 Rangefinder

The stated beam divergence is accurate, when I got mine I checked it out with a night vision scope. At first I thought that on paper a beam 2 MILS wide wouldn’t be all that great, but in actual use it hasn’t posed any problems. I think the .1 mil height makes up for it. You can pretty easily hit...

Vortex Razor HD 4000 LRF first impressions

I’ve been using this for a couple of weeks now and have continued to be impressed. It has ranged every target painted with flat primer inside 1 mile without issue regardless of size or distance every time I push the button. Some were as small as .75 MOA at 1,000 yds. This weekend I was at a...

    Gunsmithing Starter Lathe

I was where you are and taught myself. I went with the Grizzly G4003G lathe and it has done really well for my first lathe. Check out the Tooling from Arthur Warner, they make some really nice high speed steel insert tooling. A turning, boring, and threading kit will get you into the game. The...

    Gunsmithing What were they thinking?

Not gunsmithing, but funny as all get out at the time. One Sunday I was working on my rifle and someone knocked on the garage door. It was a friend holding what looked like a tie rod that lost a fight with a beaver. He was bailing hay and broke a tie rod on his tractor in a hole something had...

Vortex Razor HD 4000 LRF first impressions

Went to another location today but the animals were not cooperating, they are usually further out, and I was looking into the sun. Very easy to range brown sheep at 800 yds, a little more difficult to range black cows at 1470 facing into the sun, but was able to do so in ELR mode easily. The...

Vortex Razor HD 4000 LRF first impressions

I’ve had this unit for a whole day and a half, but here is my take thus far. I have been looking for a reasonably priced LRF that can reliably range targets to 2,000 yds. But there isn’t much in that market space without spending what I would consider serious money. I don't need the...

Gunsmithing Custom bbl for muzzle threading

Contact your barrel maker of choice and they can probably do it. I have a Forbes rifle that was made like you describe.

    Cameras for spotting?

I tried using a 600mm lens on a Nikon D200 and while able to spot trace in a recorded video played back on a monitor, in real time looking through the viewfinder it was difficult to see anything except an occasional splash.

    Vortex razor hd 4000 rangefinder

Will write a better review after I have more time behind this, but very impressed thus far. IPSC at 1000 no problem, 48 in steel plate at 1725, no problem. I was able to get single press of the button readings on almost every stump, rock, tree, and target inside 1960 yards which was as far as I...

    Vortex razor hd 4000 rangefinder

I don’t normally jump on the latest, greatest, new shiny, but this looks like it will be exactly what I have been looking for. Tracking number is in hand, should have more info in the next day or two.

    Tikka T1X

Looks great, I love the trg bipod. I’m so on the fence about a T1X. If I didn’t have a Sako quad Range that shoots great, I would get one in a heartbeat, what does your T1X in the bravo weigh?

Interesting, my Bravo for a rem 700 takes the TRG bipod just fine.

Night Vision Any experience with “torch style” laser illuminators?

I agree, my SPIR focuses down to 2 degrees. That matches up to the field of view of my scope at 8x. The edges of the beam are way more well defined than your pic. Any chance the focusing ring of the SPIR is hitting something on your rig?

Gunsmithing breaking open SAKO TRG-42 barrel

Knowing they can be a pain to get off, and the fact my barrel was toast, I cut a relief grove in the barrel then used the action wrench from KRG.

Night Vision Steiner SPIR at 1500m?

I haven’t tried it that far, but at 900 it is like a spotlight. I have no doubt it could go to 1500. I use it with a 203 Simrad.

Gunsmithing 10 years, but it finally happend.

Chad, am I seeing this right? One fixture in one machine to true a 700, enlarge scope base holes, and possibly even add a side bolt release all with a cycle run time of under 5 minutes?

Hunting rifle - what barrel profile is light but rigid enough for short strings at the range

I’ve used Bartlein #3s on three of my rifles and have not seen any issues at the range with reasonable usage. I have a #2B on hand to try on the next one.
