They aren't really made for bencherest. Turbo or 2500x single shot actions are for bencherest. As said Shilen Mueller and Benchmark barrels have been the leaders. Bartleins and Krieger do make 22 rimfire barrels but represent a minority but can be competitive. Can you use a Vudoo or RimX...
Bartleins are great barrels but there is no arguing that button rifled barrels are the leaders in 22 bencherest. AKA the gold standard in accuracy. Vudoo makes mostly tactical trainers and rifles for PRS rimfire type games and activities that are less pure accuracy dependent.
Like I said button continues to be the gold standard for rimfire. Shilen, Benchmark and Mueller are the rimfire leaders. All button rifled. Mueller and Benchmark do cut on centerfire but still button all the rimfires.
You are right that button rifling is a simpler process and once you have a good button repeating is easier. However the button process of ironing the rifling into steel is much more stress inducing. Although these barrels are double stress relieved. There is all kinds of metallurgic theory...
Also I forgot to mention I would go with the manufacturer your gunsmith guarantees his work behind. If you smith has a good relationship with X company but doesn't guarantee or have a good relationship with Y company than it is a no brainer.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with button barrels. In a pure accuracy comparison Cut rifled or Button rifled are a 50/50 toss up. Especially not discernable in PRS applications. However I do believe that my cut rifled barrels seem to be a little less picky with load development...
I made the barrel list in 2021. Benchmark is also a first tier button barrel maker. I honestly don't see over a dimes worth of difference in any of the top tier makers. The first thing you should do is identify your specs. And then just pick any of the first tier manufacturers. I...
I agree with MK20. They are the same accuracy wise. Theoretically the single shot with no bottom cut is stronger and stiffer but this theory has not practical application.
No offense but your the title of your thread "why are Foundation stocks popular" is going to skew your poll results. Most manners, Mcmillian, TS Customs guys probably won't even click this thread with a title like that. Foundation stocks are showing popular but mostly Foundation fans are going...
I agree to get another rifle. The beauty of a model 7 is to have a little shorter than model 700, lighter hunting rifle. It shines as a handy deer stand rifle. I would not irreversibly alter it as spoken of in post #5
Supersubes is right. The premium custom makers listed above are around 400 for the blank. Plan 350 for install. More if you want it painted, muzzle break or your action trued (aka blueprinted). Also if you have a traditional stock the barrel channel will have to be opened up to accept an M40...
I have a HFB enforcer with Olive G10 Chaos grip stone washed acid finish. With rock work on lanyard hole and thumb ramp. Never carried, cut or sharpened. Black Carbon pins. Will ship new in box with HFB Sticker and Kydex sheath. Sharpened on both sides. Looks in the pictures on website that some...
