PRS Talk My NF ELR Steel Challenge match review with the 25 SAUM and Blackjack Bullets

I have run 2 different barrels on mine and have about 500 on one and ~800 on the other. Neither have lost any velocity. My expectation is to lose a bit of velocity around 12-1400 rounds but I also run them at 3280-3300 FPS. I’m guessing accuracy will fall off around 16-1800 rounds.

    25-06 131 gr blackjack

Well the company name gives a pretty big clue, although no one would likely think of it without being lead that way. It’s also not easily identified since their are 2 radius’s on the ogive.

    25-06 131 gr blackjack

You guys could ask the source, I have been heavily involved in this thread. While I’m not going to release bullet specs, I will tell you your break down of the bullet’s parts is very good BUT you are WAY off on the radius’s

    25-06 131 gr blackjack

I know, I made them. But I don’t know why you would not run it over 3kfps. Probably 1/3 of 25 creed barrels can run safely at 3030-3040fps for 3000 rounds. Other slower barrels still run comfortably at 2950-2970. The -06 has over 10 grains more H2O capacity, why wouldn’t you utilize it?

PRS Talk My NF ELR Steel Challenge match review with the 25 SAUM and Blackjack Bullets

we have about 700 rounds on the one Miles shot in WY it’s still shooting good but wouldn’t take it to a match in fear of losing speed half way through. Heck it might get to 1000 but not worth risking at a match. It will be retired from match duty and designated as squad operated LT hunting rifle

Range Report 25 cal for comps

@winniedonkey , it’s 24” and fully capable of running 2970 FPS. I just really like the recoil/performance balance at the lower node. I’m guessing 2800 would be doable in a 20”

Range Report 25 cal for comps

I don’t have time to log in here often but this thread got brought back to my attention in my notifications. real world results of a PRS shooter: 2 barrels of different manufacturers both lost ~30-35 FPS at 2500 rounds. Still shot as good or better than when it was new. That shooter added a few...

Only you can determine what criteria you deem maximum range. As far as the quarterbores in that lineup you can run the ballistics against the others and I think you will be pretty surprised at the results. 131g ACE with G7 BC .340 Blackjack and 25-06 both will run 3150- 3250 fps The 25 SAUM...

PRS Talk My NF ELR Steel Challenge match review with the 25 SAUM and Blackjack Bullets

Thanks Scott , Nick , Tad, the Tillard 55 Ranch and everyone else that had a part in the making of the 2020 Nightforce ELR Steel Challenge! To me it's the best matches in the country as far as testing a shooter's wind reading abilities, the rife's capability to perform in dust/dirt and having...

    25x47 Lapua

We delayed the release due to the overwhelmingly positive hunting results with the 131 ACE. However it is still in the pipeline. The bullet I'm referring to will use same reamer/freebore dimensions as the ACE and also require the same twist rates.

    Advanced Marksmanship Bullet Selection

@MarkLeupold hit the nail on the head. For a 260 the 140 class bullets will suit you great. The 140 hyb and 142 SMK are going to be the easiest from a reloading stand point. The 140 ELDM or 143 ELDx are both good too. I would stay away from the RDF's they work great for some and not at all for...

Range Report 25 Creed 131 ace range report and findings!

They are consumable, yet still not a fun thing to have to buy/chamber/load develop every 1000 rounds. Which was a driving factor in the creation of the 131's we wanted great ballistics, moderate recoil, high energy on target and an increase in barrel life over the 6mm's that are/were so popular.

Range Report 25 Creed 131 ace range report and findings!

Guys there are so many variables in the equation of barrel life. Only you know how your barrel will be used (or maybe not with a surprise unlimited round count mover with 2.5 min time limit). Generally speaking you will get a great increase in life compared to a 6mm version of the same cartridge...
