Gunsmithing Can you hand ream a 308 barrel for a bolt rifle ?

Re: Can you hand ream a 308 barrel for a bolt rifle ? There has got be someone in the area who owns a lathe. Doing the whole chamber by hand would take all day! If the barrel was short chambered, however; cutting the last .010 or so with the pull through is a good way to go.

Gunsmithing Remington Sendero/VS Stocks - Who Makes Them?

Re: Remington Sendero/VS Stocks - Who Makes Them? IDK - I thought for years these were H-S Precision. A guy who coordinates some of the big box store contracts tells me they are, at least currently, made by Bell and Carlson. He seems pretty credible.

Gunsmithing Remington Sendero/VS Stocks - Who Makes Them?

I always thought these stocks were made by HS Precision, but an industry insider told me awhile back that they are actually made by Bell and Carlson. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks. Roskoe.

Re: How do you prep aluminum for duracoat? 220 grit aluminum oxide has worked pretty well for me in the past.

    Gunsmithing oversized muzzle break?

Re: oversized muzzle break? The benefits of a tight fit between the bullet and muzzle brake exit hole are greatly exaggerated. I like to bore them about .030 over bullet diameter. But a hole as much as .080 over doesn't seem to reduce the effectiveness.

Gunsmithing Remington 700's recoil lug straightness

Re: Remington 700's recoil lug straightness Yes - I have seen all sorts of misalignements in stock rifles that still shot great. If it shoots that good, don't rock the boat!

    Gunsmithing 30-378 accuracy potential

Re: 30-378 accuracy potential I have built a couple of these using Hart 28" barrels and they would both shoot in the 1/4" range. Nothing inherently wrong with the caliber. But playing around with loads at length can get old when the useful barrel of the rifle is less than 800 rounds.

Re: Looking for someone good in the trade! Looks like putting a bull barrel section on the barrel would take care of the problem. Send me a PM. I have done quite a bit of this stuff.

Gunsmithing what's a good source for brakes?

Re: what's a good source for brakes? I use the Vias type brakes on hunting rifles, and the Fat Bastard brakes on the competition rifles. Send me a PM if interested in the Vias type brakes. Regards. Roskoe.

Gunsmithing Best paint for fiberglass stocks?

Re: Best paint for fiberglass stocks? I have done both the air dry Cerakote and Duracoat on stocks. I like the Duracoat better. It goes on thicker and leaves a more spattered finish. Kinda like latex paint. I also like to spatter finish these stocks with a darker color on the base...

Gunsmithing Changing R700 .308 bolt face to Mag bolt face?

Re: Changing R700 .308 bolt face to Mag bolt face? I have done a bunch of these. Charge to open the bolt face and install the Sako style extractor is $80 (at my shop). Might consider just selling the gun and buying one with the right size bolt face. Many times this is more cost effective.

    Gunsmithing Sendero Build Question

Re: Sendero Build Question The stock on the Sendero's, from what I understand, is actually a Bell and Carlson - Medalist style. And if it is shooting well, I'm not sure I would rock the boat. Still, many folks like to skiff bed these with JB weld. Pretty easy to do.

    Gunsmithing changing caliber ?

Re: changing caliber ? Doable, but by the time you alter the T3 and put on a new barrel; you would probably be money ahead to just sell the .308 and get a 7MM SAUM.

    Gunsmithing AR-15 Question

Re: AR-15 Question Likely cause is a mis-aligned gas tube. Remove the bolt carrier assembly and charging handle - pull the bolt from the carrier. Now take just the carrier and run it in and out of the upper with the tip of your finger. Do you still feel the resistance?
