So that stock is a manners EH4 if I recall. It’s their shortest fore end elite hunter. At least it was at the time. I have another gun in a T4 that is significantly more vertical. I’d describe this palm swell as about in between a T4 and traditional hunting stock. Not very scientific but that’s...
Will see if this picture posts. I don’t know velocities because I’ve never chrono’d but I’m guessing based on my dope that it’s around 2450 for my 168-175.
Hey thanks for the compliment. Can’t believe it’s been over four years since I built this rifle. The rifle is just perfect. Not kidding it’s the only bolt gun I shoot. It is solid 1/2 moa with 175gr FGMM. I don’t reload so who knows what it’s really capable of. I actually took the gun to...
So many great guns here. This is the thread that first inspired me to build my first custom gun as a shorty so I wanted to finally contribute to the thread. Arrived last week but I haven't shot it yet. The gun was built by Mark at SAC and of course he and his team were great to work with and...
I have a lighter weight build being done right now with short action customs in an eh4. Also rem varmint contour. I chose the eh4 over the eh2 because I am going with a 16 inch barrel. No pics yet but Tom said the eh4 was preferable over the eh2 with at contour. I agree that your choice comes...
I put a rem 700 5r in a T4A last year and Tom told me no reason to bed unless you are chasing that absolute last 0.1 inch. For your application I would certainly try not bedding and see how it shoots. Mine is a real shooter. Capable of 0.3 MOA with FGMM. Good luck
So I finally got out last weekend to sight in the new rifle and see how she shoots. I am so excited for how great this gun shoots. I read a bunch here about barrel break in and cleaning and such (all new to me I might add) and ultimately decided just to clean it before shooting and take it to...
Alright I got my rifle back a couple of weeks ago and am really pleased with how it turned out. Attempting to attach a pic here. Sorry for the iphone pic. A special thanks to Tom Manners for such a quick turnaround on my stock and to Mark at SAC for the great work and quick turnaround...
congrats on your new purchase. I just got a Rem 700 5R in 308 last month (my thread is on here somewhere), and I ended up going with the T4A with mini chassis. Gun is supposed to be here on Tuesday so I can't comment on my decision yet, but it was based on research and opinions around here...
awesome. Great looking gun. This has me so excited about my rig. I talked with Mark last week and I think I've decided on everything for mine. Thanks for the pics. Let us know how it shoots and good luck with the ATF process. I've been waiting over 4 months and it never gets any easier.
Thanks, guys. This is all very helpful. I am starting to think that the 0.78 inch rings will be tight but would technically work. Based on Win308's numbers, the 50 inch bell (vs his 42) would cut clearance by about 0.16 inches and the rings themselves would be 0.14 inches lower (0.78 compared...
Alright, I know it is super annoying given the calculators out there and available, but I am trying to help out my dad who doesn't have the gun in hand and knows nothing about rings/bases. He just bought a Rem 700 308 5R (sendaro profile, if I understand correctly). He also purchased a Zeiss...
hireheroes, if you ever want to adopt someone in their 30's, just lemme know! Surprised you found that many 5R's. I looked seriously hard before I found the last two at an out of state dealer. Good find
Guys, many thanks for all the advice. I will talk to Mark about the bolt knob vs handle, timney vs rework and bedding of the receiver. Feels really great to get most of this stuff sorted out in my head at least. I know I need to look at reloading. I have always discounted it in the past...
I really appreciate the advice guys. Sounds like medium rings it is then. Also sounds like fluting is unnecessary and could even offer some disadvantages. Good to hear on the trigger. I hadn't focused on this much yet, but just took a look at the Timney 510. Seems like it gets solid reviews...
Hey fellas, I wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for all the information these forums have provided. I’m putting together my first bolt gun and most of what I’ve learned I learned here. Been planning in my head for a while but just started really researching. Rather than ask 1000...
