I've done 7-8 batches with mine and have no complaints. Good thick rubber coating in the drum and I like the timer feature on the motor. Get the magnet media separator.
I got a shitty one. 2 moa at best with numerous different handloads, HS precision stock and a jewell trigger. I gave up and re barreled it. Chattered threads, .005" out of concentricity and a piss poor crown. Shoots consistent 3/8 moa now. This is my second dud 700. I'll only custom build from...
You can just fire a standard 223 in the Ackley chamber. If you want to save components and barrel life, you can use the COW (cream of wheat) method to form the body and shoulders.
My aac-sd shot like shit. 2 moa with several powder and bullet combinations along with an HS stock and jewell trigger. .187" freebore was a joke. After wasting enough money on powder and bullets to just about pay for a barrel, I gave up and re barreled it. Solid 3/8 moa now.
I love Remington 700s and own 10 of them including 6 customs. But, I've been wanting to try an Ackley improved cartridge and didn't want to invest a couple grand into it. Just put together a Savage build in 6mmAI. Still doing load development but it looks promising.
I love mine. Easy to form brass and great performance. I get 3040 fps from a 120 smk with .25moa accuracy. I haven't taken mine to extreme long range but 600 and in is a chip shot.
My aac-sd must have been built on a Monday by the guy with a terrible hangover. 2 moa is the best it would do with 6 different bullets and 3 powders, along with a bedded hs stock and jewel trigger upgrade. I gave up and re barreled it. 3/8 moa now.
It's a different bolt face. You'll have to get a new bolt or machine your existing one. You'll be better off just finding a cheap donor R700 with the correct bolt face. More trouble than it's worth.
