The .204 is a very nice caliber but you have to be careful about comparing it with the .223. By the simple expedient of using a longer/heavier bullet in the .223 I can make it do things the .204 can only dream about and at half the distance. If you are comapring the best .204 loading to a 55gr .223, that's different and shortsighted.

Re: 223 vs 22-250

.243 with a 1/7 twist. Outshoots everything mentioned here, and does it with under 40gr of powder. less drop and wind drift at 1k than a 300win mag, with the 115 Dtac. here is your free lunch.

big enough to shoot all your fox, roos, and misc. other varmints in the outback.

Re: 223 vs 22-250

Me too....my 22-250 took ~34gr of '15 to run the 75's at 3300. My 243AI takes 47.5gr of '22 to run the 105's at 3150. The 243AI has almost the exact same amount of drop at 1K as my old '250 and only beats it in the wind by bout 1MOA at 1K.

But like was mentioned....the 243 wasn't really an option in the original posters case.

Re: 223 vs 22-250

Traded my .22-250 for a 20" LTR .223, which I load Scenar 69 grs to, and shoot to 600 meters with great results, cant say I ever looked back.

.22-250 is like a V8 engine, lots of size and noise, but lacks performance per displacement, the .223 is a modern turbo-charged V6, smaller, cheaper and really not that far behind..

I would imagine even in the US, the supply of good factory loads are much better on .223's as well + .223 is much more easy to hand load!

Sedgley 22-06 (older than me and that IS old) with a lot of H869 and 70 gr TSXs. The rock on the ridge (the rock is VW size) to the left of my right shoulder is where I put my pack to use as a rest to make this one shot kill which penetrated 75% of this guy. The 22-06 has about the same ballistics as the 22/244 IMP. Will hold 1 MOA to 600 (farthest I've shot it)

I'm gonna assume you shot that in another state where .224 is legal to hunt with.......gotta have at least .243 in WY.
