.22LR DTA SRS clone build project

yep. i think ill be using a CASV quad rail for it. its easier to bolt on

just going through a few ideas in my head on how to get it done.

thinking about using epoxy putty to get a rough shape for the metal chassis. then buy a 6061 block aluminum and have it milled it our use a scroll saw

or maybe carve one out of wood to get as a prototype

I really want to do something similar with a 20practical or something of that size for a varmint gun. Looking forward to following along.

Finally got the stock in.

I plan to paint everything black when I'm done with this.

Just doing some brainstorming, measurements and some test fitting with different handguards.

I'll try to see if I can use an aluminum channel bar to help bed the action. If this doesn't work, then its just epoxy putty to bed around the action/barrel. Then use JB Weld to glue that to the left receiver

I'll figure out the trigger linkage later on when I'm done bedding and fabricating the upper receiver/handguard area

The dremeling part is the easiest that can be done in 15-20 minutes. Just the rear section needs to be dremeled off to make room for the action to drop in.

I also have to dremel around the bolt handle

I do have to buy extra metric screws and larger retaining pins since it didnt come with it.

I'll either have to buy the DTA metal cheek rest or I'll fabricate my own metal cheek rest

I was thinking I can drill a large hole in the buttpads to move the action back and line up the Savage magazine to the DTA magwell. So when I rack the bolt back, it goes inside the buttpads. I think I'll try that first since its hidden anyways.

The red outline is the plastic that I have to dremel off to allow the action to sit flush

Action just laying inside. I havent done any cutting yet.

Test fitting with the action/barrel. The magazine does not line up with the DTA magwell.

Here's a test fit of a SCAR CASV metal handguard

Added a AR15 CASV quad rail just to see how it would look. M1A bipod

Switched to an AFG

Cleaner look with just the CASV quad rail. I'd have to make an aluminum block to fill that gap

I think I'll stick with this version.

Finished the dremel work inside. Will sand down the edges smooth.

Was able to move the action back a bit more to make the magazine line up with the DTA magwell

Next, drilling into the buttpad to make sure the bolt can be racked.

I need to cut some metal and bend it with a brake press and epoxy glue it to the left stock inside on top of the action to protect my face

Then bedding the action with epoxy putty.

Picked up a 6061 aluminum bar.

Need to cut this down to size with a band saw

Also bought a 12 inch picatinny rail that I will drill and tap

I'll be using an angle grinder to shave off the metal and a metal filer and sander to smooth it out.

I have to admit, this is one of the coolest things to be done for the Savage!! I am a HUGE Savage fan, so this really has my interest!! Looks great!!

I have been looking for some sort of chassis system for the MKII, but they seem to be a very scarce situation on the web. Hmmm...

thanks

you can do this one for $160 for the stock. you just need a drill press or power drill to make holes for your action screws.
