243ai Loads?

I have a new 7.7 5r benchmark barrel for my aiae it is mtuish contour and 28" long. i have a good fireforming load already so next week i will be ready to start testing full loads.

Needless to say i bought this barrel just for fun i have a 243 24" barrel also and this one is just to shoot some screaming 105-115 bullets. I am hoping to get the dtacs to 3200fps or the 105-108's 3300fps.

I run 47gr of 4831SC behind 107 SMK's and 105 Amax's. A friend runs the same charge behind 105 Bergers. I use win primers, he uses CCI BR.

We both have 8 twist barrels. I tried the 115's and couldn't get any accuracy with a velocity that I would need to make sence to run them so I got rid of them.

51 gr Retumbo and 115 VLD's. Regular CCI primer

you must tap the case quite a bit to get that much powder to settle in order to seat bullets reliably.

I run 46.8 of 4831 SC with the berger 115 and 47.7 with the berge 105 hybrids. They are screamers in my melonited 7.5 twist benchmark 30" barrel.

I have had great luck with H1000 and the 115's in the standard case. I would start at 47 gr, my max load for the standard case, and work up.

That long barrel should really optimize a nice slow powder.

Has anybody tried retumbo? i happen to have a brand new keg of it, i will also be trying h1000.

what speed are you getting and what length barrel?

You will have no trouble at all getting there with a 243AI. I saw 3130 with Berger 115s and 40.1g of RL17 in a 6XC with no pressure. My shooting buddy shoots 243AI and he launches some of the 95-105g bullets so fast that it puts holes in his steel from time to time. His chamber is sized for the smaller bullets so I'm not sure what the 115s could do. Based on his other velocities I'd bet 3400+ on a max load for 115s.
