I'm in the process of loading up some Nosler 140CC bullets. Hogden shows a range of 39 to 42 with H4350. Yet a 142MK at 41.5 to 44.5. OAL the same. Unfortunatelly Hogden only shows a partition bullet. When I go to Noslers site it just shows a spitzer in that weight and no H4350 powder. Anyway I loaded up 5 each from 41 to 42.5 in .3ths incriments. Anyone ever load these and what was your experience with them? Thanks

Re: 260 load question

The loads that have worked for me with the 140cc is 43.0grn of H4350 loaded 15 off with CCI BR2 primers. It gave a 10 shot string average of 2772fps with a 14 ES in 100 degree weather using remington 260 brass and Winchester necked down 7/08. 44.0grn's gave a 10 shot avg velocity of 2877fps with a 17 ES. The barrel is a 26" broughton 1-8" twist 5c. No pressure signs on either load.

Hope it helps!

Re: 260 load question

Thanks for the info. Any reason why there is such a difference in loads? Seems heavier would require less powder not 2 grains more. I know the 142's are longer but that means they are further in the case raising psi. Maybe I'm missing something obvious.

Re: 260 load question

Reloading manuals are edited by lawyers, work up a load with your brass powder primer bullet, start low and work up slowly, your chamber pressure might be fine where as the same load may be under or over pressure in another weapon, isn't reloading fun.

Re: 260 load question

What can you tell us about rifle, more specifically the chamber?

Is this a custom or factory rifle?

There can be a large difference in freebore, which can have pretty large impact on powder charge.

Several variables here that come in to play and need to be factored in to be able to give you an informed answer.

Re: 260 load question

The data for both bullets came from Hogden. The rifle is a new Savage model 12. I had it built from the ground up. True and time on the action, Stokade wood chuck stock and a Benchmark barrel. Typically Hogden's good about their data. I always work up my loads. Just the powder charge between the 2 bullets had me a little confused. I'll shoot what I have and see how it goes. If all goes well I'll some more at 42.8 and 43.1.
