41.2gr Alliant 2000MR 2820fps
140gr Hornady 140BTHP

This was at 300 yards. Around 5mph wind. Groups opened up as the barrel got hot. I shot the 5 groups in about 10 mins

This is the most recent. The rifle can shoot, better than me!

Here is a load I am working with. I believe I've found a charge weight the gun likes. Still need to work with adjusting the COAL.

Stock Savage LRP 260
2 5 shot groups
100 yds
41.2 Alliant 2000MR
140 grain Nosler CC
Lapua brass (5x)
Fed 210m
2815 ave fps

Honestly last year when I was around the forum a bunch, nobody was using 2000mr, now it seems quite popular. What happened?

After researching the web, I found no loads for folks running a JP LRP-07 in .260, and have considered making a separate topic for gassers in the 6.5's but for now, here she is:

22" JP 1:8
41.7gr H4350
139gr Scenar, loaded to 2.81

It is a very basic load, and discovered that any load between that 41.7-42.0 grains shoots like a house on fire. Also keep in mind that the COAL remained static during these developments.

Also, I found that any load in the 41.0-41.7gr range will easily shoot half moa. It's just that the 41.7 produced a few .25 moa groups (one was .21), and several under half moa.

I think it's a relatively new powder compared to varget h4350 R17etc.. and more readly available. H4350 has been almost impossible to find in the last year or so. I was finally able to get some H4350 locally but the 2000MR is working out better in my rifle so far. Its also the best powder that works with 178-185grain bullets in my 308. I think we're going to see lot more people using the 2000MR in 308/260 loads in the future

Yea I just did some research was released in 2010, a bit after rl17 around varget and rl15 burn rate.

I'll be honest the 3000lr would have me more intrigued, since a little slower butning, but it hasn't been released yet. Interesting stuff.

My 260 is working really well with H4831SC and 140 Hybrids. 24" Criterion barrel 1:8 twist.

260 Lapua brass
140 Hybrid
H4831SC @ 46.5grs
Wolf LR Primer

.016" off the lands
COL @ 2.960"

Speed 2808 avg with 12 shots. 11ES / 5 SD. It 's super consistent and have only shot it to 700 yards so far, an is holding under under MOA easy.Super impressed with H4831 so far. Varget and H4831 has been really top performers in my rifle.

I run this same load with the 142 SMK's and it's excellent for accuracy. Going to try the Berger 140 Hyb now.

Long Rifles Inc. M700 build. 22" Bartlein SS barrel, 1:8" twist 5R, rem varmint contour.

140 Amax at 2.800" COAL
42.3gr H4350
Rem .260 brass
CCI #200

2716 fps average. .3-.5 MOA accuracy. Tested at 533, 772, 1057, and 1229yd today, all 1/2 MOA vertical or better. Windage... is another story. Time to practice.

A little update from this. After getting five hundred rounds down the tube, velocity increased a touch to 2735-2740fps avg.

Vertical dispersion continues to be scary, wind continues to kick me around :)

Where is the best and cheapest place to get Lapua 260 Rem brass people know of in-stock around Australia? I am about to ring around.

Also I am keen on ADI AR2208 and ADI AR2209 and wish to keep a Berger 140 Grain Hybrid Target supersonic past 1300m for an upcoming field competition from a 24in barrel. Is this a bit ambitious? One serial is 1500m, three are 1000m+, eight are less than 1000m.

Is the Berger 140 Grain Hybrid Target transonically stable?
With ADI AR2208 I should get 2600ft/s
With ADI AR2209 I should get another 100ft/s and be supersonic for another 100m out to roughly 1200m

I have a 123gr Nosler Custom Competition load that isn't going to cut it so far out unfortunately and I'm running out of time. I have been waiting on projectiles for over a month and only have enough for sighting in and the comp. I am using a 308 and Whiskey 3 chassis as a trainer then swapping everything with scope onto the 260.

Would you recommend sticking with what I know or MacGyver something up with just over a month to go? The competition is overseas and I think I am already out-gunned.
Thanks in advance.

Went out yesterday to re-zero the rifles because I demounted the scopes to adjust for proper eye relief. These 3 shot groups are off a bench rest. The DPMS AR10 seems to be out shooting the Savage 12 bolt gun.
I also measured bullet drops with a 100 yd zero. The DPMS doesn't drop nearly as much , 3" @ 200, 13" @ 300 , 46"@ 500, The Savage drops 13"@ 200, 28"@ 300, 74"@ 500. Identical loads and twist rates. I'm going to go out for 500 yd groups next week.

You really need to get a .260 up in the 2700fps if you can. Say you are shooting 175s out of a .308 at 2650 vs the 123 at 2600, the BC isn't enough higher.

I really really like the 140 Hybrid. If you can make time and work up a load, it's probably your best bet...though I can't speak how well it will do transonic, I've only taken them to 1100.

My AINA 1:8" 24" will launch it in the upper 2800s pretty easy, but my node is around 2830 FPS.

The way I see it, if you have enough you can work up an accurate load, chrono it, and confirm your data, you would be silly not to. The 123 isn't going to cut it---but I'd take the load I know over one I don't if I can't get data.

.260 Rem SEMI AUTO load

JP LRP-07
.260 Rem
22 inch barrel

123gr Lapua Scenar
43gr H4350
Lapua Brass, full length resized with small base die
CCI BR2 primers
Load to PMAG length

Results in 2750 fps, and 3.1 Mils to 550 yards.

Update for my Savage 12 LRP: after carefully doing another OCW test, I've settled on 42.2gr of 2000MR with the 140 Hybrids. It's getting 0.6" groups and 2867fps. I could run 43.1gr and get 2912fps but would get gas past a primer once in a while (loose primer pockets perhaps?) so I'm fine with the 42.2gr load.

Then I ran this test and found a good torque setting. This tightened up the groups just a tad, when I can manage to do my job reasonably.

Now I'm running on OCW test with Hodgdon 4831SC using Hornady 140 Match bullets. I think I found my slow node at 44.6 grains, got a 0.4" group at 2785fps. I'm running the rest of the test (up to 46gr) in the morning, hoping I find a speed similar to the 2000MR.

I'll test some Reloader 15 next.

Ignore the bottom three as they are 308’s
24” obermeyer “bugholes build” at 300y
H4350 with 139 scenars in Lapua brass and standard CCI primers, 1.2mil dialed into the scope from 100 yard zero. Dots are two inches. wind was from 7-8 o'clock 4-5mph with 9-10 mph gusts... no wind dialed or held
P100214_1306.jpg

On dot #2 I know I triggered that high shot just a touch high, got to love single digit SD/ES on the magnetospeed...
I am planning to try 42.7&42.8 next but at longer distance.

RL15 is too fast burning. You'll end up piercing/popping/leaking primers. I wouldn't waste my time. H4831SC, H4350 is where it's at.

Agreed. The H4831SC works so well in my rifle, why try anything else? best-group-ever.jpg

45.7 grains gave me 2833 fps with an ES of 5 and an SD of 2.64. :D

Looking for some load data for a 140gr Berger VLD hunt with H4350

Pick one of the safe starting charges and work up. That's pretty much what to do for any bullet. I would start around 40.5 and work up. Remember that VLDs are picky about where they are relative to the lands.
