There’ve been a number of 300BLK threads lately and I’ve done my share of “searching’ but I haven’t seen this particular question discussed/answered. (Mods: if you feel this thread would best be merged with one of the other 300BLK threads, by all means…)

I have an unoccupied lower so I’ve been contemplating a 300BLK build. In doing my research I’m finding allot written about the virtues of the round’s performance in an SBR/Subsonic/Suppressed role. It seems like it may have been designed, at least in part, to provide an upgrade over pistol-caliber short barreled machine pistols and carbines.

That leads me to the question that initiated this post: Does the 300BLK make sense as a civilian carbine (16”) and/or rifle-length round?? Very much looking forward to the discussion….

    Re: 300BLK ???

I have a small bit of experience with them, not much. From what I do know, I would personally only craft one as a short barrel self defense solution that would be light weight. It's a decent round and a nice concept but we did have to play with the powder quite a bit to get the round right. We were running in to some issues with cycling the bolt fully. So, you may find yourself with some load development as well as weight development on the moving parts such as carriers and buffers. Good Luck!

Daniel Horner "won" the 3 gun championships with 300 blk, they use it for power factor. And hogdon has published reload data on their website and in there new 2012 reloading manual. Just got all my stuff and haven't had time to experiment but heres a pic of my 300blk 9 incher next to my 18 inch 223 comp rifle.
