I shot this with a buddy New Year's Day here in AZ. Target is 12x20" ar500. Temp was 70 degrees and wind was about 4mph. Alt 1200ft above sea level. I dialed up 18mils. (16 on the dial 2 on the reticle)

Load: 185 Berger OTM juggernaut
Lapua brass
43.5gr IMR 4064. I was getting 2750fps with this load.
CCI 200 primer

Rifle: R700 blueprinted action
Rock creek M40 barrel 24" 1/10 twist
McMillan A4 stock
Timney trigger set at 2.5lbs
Vortex Viper 5-15x44
Had to hold over two mils with the reticle. Ran out of scope with 20moa base.

Gotta love the way a 30 cal rocks a target way out there, even a 308. Lets see a 6mm do that or even see the misses in the dirt...

I thought it would be interesting to compare the two. Used Hornadys calculator. Using his load against a 115 VLD at 3000 fps. Heres the .308 @1400 yards 1126 fps, 520 ft lbs, 798 in drop, 166 in. drift (10mph) vs. the .243 @1400 yards, 1247 fps, 397 ft lbs, 670 in. drop, and 142 in drift. Not a truly fair comparison but the 30 cal is only packing 120 ft lbs more energy. The 6mm shoots WAY flatter and drifts less. Not going to argue over caliber differences in fact my next rifle may be .308. But I do think the 6mm would kick up some dust.

Did I miss where it said what the altitude and elevation setting was?
 
I actually entered the .308 muzzle velocity as 2850 fps in the first post. At 2750 fps muzzle @1400 yards 1091 fps, 489 ft lbs, 868 in drop, 174 in drift. 0 altitude and whatever their calculators elevation is set at. Its no wonder so many of the long range folks like 6mm. Sorry its early in the morning and I am bored.

There's a big difference between real world results and numbers on paper. I burnt out a barrel on a 243 running it LR and have probably 40-50K rounds combined on various 308's, I've experienced the differences in how they impact long distance targets. There's a reason some comps that have targets beyond 1K tell you to use 6mm at your own risk. A hit doesn't mean a thing if the spotter doesn't see it and call it.
 
Point well taken. I could see having a lot more bullet weight making a difference.

Your data gives me more like 15-16 Mils and a supersonic bullet, while 18 Mils gives me a bullet at either just under or just over the speed of sound depending on the actual velocity.

Getting hits at 1425 yards, using a 15X Viper without the fancy smancy glass, with a .308.

That was the data I got just using bergers calculator. It called for 17.4mils.

Thats very good MV for what you were working with, I'm sure it helped. Surprised actually that you could get that kind of MV with 43.5 grains. Good stuff.

Great Shooting and awesome video. What a great versatile round the .308 is. I like that Berger 185 otm. What was the overall length of your round?
 
Damn 2750 with a 185? That's pretty dang hot. Nice hits, might have to stretch mine on out some as well.
 
Good clean shots. Gives me hope for my platform. I noticed those distinctive cactus around your target, was your vid done in the Tucson area?
 
Good shooting and good wind calls. With strong fundamentals, it can be done with a .308 (obvisously :) )
 
Very nice. Using the same bullet/brass this year. Played 2000MR but best consistency and accuracy came with Varget and since that's what I'm using with 175's went with it. Shooting 2682fps average with 43.5gr Varget with bullets seated .017 off the lands. Too long to fit my mag but using the rig for F/TR so single loading anyway.

Nice shooting !

I've pushed my 308 using Lapua Scenar 10 g factory ammo at 1204m (~1316yds) against a steel target 25mm height and 40cm wide.
I had a 3 m/s R to L wind.
17,3 MIL corection (drop)
