I am planning a future build of my newly acquired r700 30-06. I plan on running a 24" or 26" barrel and maxing it out for distance as I can gain access to longer ranges. primary use will be targets with the occasional deer hunt. with distance shooting in mind, I saw a Badger Ord. 30moa base and was wondering if that would be too steep to get a 100 yard zero? don't mind pushing it to 200 yard zero if I have to as its only an inch and a half high at 100 then... optic planned right now is a 6-24x PST. should I stick with a 20moa base which seems pretty standard?

I use a 30moa on my Rem.700 .308. with my Vortex 6.5-20 x 44 hs scope I have 5.5.moa of down adjustment left from a 100 yd. zero. I don't think it will be a problem. But nothing wrong with using a 200 yd zero.

It's cutting it very close since the PST lists 65MOA of adjustment range.

I'd complete your build, zero with the normal rail and then see how much range you have left and order the base with the most adjustment allowable. If your rifle is built perfectly true you'd have 32.5MOA (then you'd order the badger 30), but that's just cutting it a hair close. Going to a 200yd zero only buys you an extra 3/4MOA.
