I picked up two pounds of H-1000 today to work up to the "standard" 90gr H1000 under 300gr SMK's.

Anybody care to share other favorite loads?

I'm interested in loading some 300gr SMK's or Scenars, maybe 250gr Scenars, and a "cheaper" load of 250gr GameKings or Hornady SST's for shorter ranges < 1200 yds.

Thanks for the help, load development is never cheap but with the bigger loads like these it can get downright depressing.

Re: 338 Edge - Load data

300 SMK's @ 3.840" 0.044" jump:

91.3 with Fed mag primers gets me about 2885 in a 29.75 rock 9.4.

I've thrown 93.5 (2920) but backed it down. I'm on my 5th firing with Rem brass. I anneal after every firing.

You can get a lot more than 90 grains in that case. I've shot up to
93 in mine.

Re: 338 Edge - Load data

Start low and then work up. I was using 93 grains of H1000 and ran out. I went and bought an 8lb. jug and I'm getting flattened primers and ejector marks at 89.5 grains. Also my velocity is less and ES is higher. This lot seems to be much faster burning.

Re: 338 Edge - Load data

Final loads in my 25' barreled edge were 94gr H-1000 with a 300 SMK and 96gr H-1000 with the 250 SMK for 2800 and 3000 fps. I did loose a little velocity as my nitrided barrel "broke" back in. These loads did apper to be max in my rifle. Primers were still rounded but started to get ejector marks and the primer pockets opened up faster.

Re: 338 Edge - Load data

Thanks for all the load advice, I've got 20 loaded up with 90.0 gr H-1000 as a starting point. If I need the velocity I can add more but I generally prefer to not push the envelope too hard.

I've got a 29.25" tube so I'm hoping for 2850fps with a 300smk as my final loading.

Re: 338 Edge - Load data

if you are shooting a new lot of H-1000, 90gr will likely be MAX. it burns MUCH faster than the older lots everyone worked their loads up with. BEWARE!

Thanks for the tip, very good to be aware of that. I've already got a bunch of 90gr loaded up so I'll chrono it and check for signs first off. I was thinking that would be a mild load and safe to start with but I may have to load up some 88gr then to work up to it.

Re: 338 Edge - Load data

As I posted a few days ago, the new lot of H1000 I have is much faster. I went out and shot today and 89gr. is max with both the SMK and Berger. At 89.5. i get really flat primers and start getting ejector marks. However, the Berger seems to show just a little less pressure.

Re: 338 Edge - Load data

For reference, I shot my load of 90.0gr H-1000 today and it did not show any pressure signs.

The load was 90.0gr H-1000, 300gr SMK's, Rem brass, CCI Magnum primers.

I got 2750 ft/s with a 50 ft/s extreme spread out of a 29.25" Pac-Nor tube.
