I figured I'd give back here a bit after lurking and reading my tail off on this site. I set out to develop a hunting load for my Rock River Arms 458 Socom.

I am shooting 1" groups or better at 75 yds using the following

Starline Brass
Remington 300gr Hollow Point (sold in bulk bags)
35gr Win 296
CCI 350 primers
COL 2.015

Hope this gets somone started in the right direction developing their own loads. Deer season opens Saturday morning!

Re: 458 SOCOM Load in a RRA Carbine

What is the velocity of that load?

Using Remington 405g sp’s

34.5g of H110 runs 1689 fps and will do clover leafs at 100 meters (start low and work up on this one).

14.3g of HS-6 gives 1006 fps and silly quite using a suppressor.

Re: 458 SOCOM Load in a RRA Carbine

In a 18" RRA upper I've gotten the following to group really well:

54.0gr BLC-2 under 300 Rem JHP (not particularly fast though)
52gr H335 under 300 Rem JHP (about 1700fps)
37gr of H110 under 300 Rem JHP (about 1850fps)

All shot well and will do a great job tackling deer.

You can fit 54gr of powder in the .458 socom case?

Spherical powder, yes. It's a lightly compressed load.
