Looking for dope in 100 yrd increments for factory ammo(140's), please list barrel length. MOA please, if ya got it. Thanks in advance.

Yea they make a bt that isnt as popular as the Amax.
Im sure someone will chime in. Ive never shot any factory 140 amaxs or id share my data.

It does. If you are just wanting data on factory loaded then barrel legnth could possibly help you estimate what you would get.
But even barrels of the same make and length can shoot quite different.
End story, if your looking to estimate what factory loaded 140amax will do in your rig.. then yes, ask about barrel length and make and DA. If your going to roll your own then just need velocity and DA.

Indeed it does, but I wouldn't say that it directly effects velocity.
Some barrels are faster than others. I would share my data but I don't shoot factor loads and I don't have my data with me and I can't recall it off the top of my head.

Thanks Knight. I will be shooting handloads tomorrow that should be close to factory, hence the question. I haven't had a chance to chrono yet so don't no speed. I figured real world on factory ammo with same length barrel would get me close.

Get your velocity and run it on JBM Ballistics. The website is free and works great. You need to know your velocity. People giving you data won't help you as it will most likely be different than yours.

Go to the Hornady website where they will give you an estimated velocity of their ammo based on the industry standard of a 24 inch barrel...you can also get the BC data for the bullet.

then go to any one of the many free ballistic caculators out there and run the numbers to get an idea of the dopes.
this will get you close and once you hit the range adjust dopes as necessary to your gun if needed.

600 yards exactly 12 moa.
139 scenars & 140 bergers are very close I can't recall exactly but they were a little less than 12 moa at 600. I bet 140 Amax are right there with the rest of them.

Thanks guys, I understand all this. I was just looking to get close for tomorrow. I will have my real world dope then, just don't want to waste a bunch of ammo getting it.

Yep, this works. I had to do it the opposite without a crono. I found my drop and used that to figure out my avg velocity. factory 140s seem to hold right around 2750 in my barrel.

If u have shooter or strelok at the range it is easy, helk used to do this before i had a chrony and smart phone. Establish 100 yd zero, next shoot at 500 at a big piece of cardboard. Add some elevation before hand unless it is a refrigerator box. Measure drop in inches,moa, mils whatever. Then use shooter,jbm or whatever to find velocity. Enter all environmental data, altitude, bc(.585) and about 2800 fps. Get solution for 500. If projected drop is more then actual u need to enter higher fps velocity. If the projected drop is less then actual, enter lower fps. This is how i used to get a ballpark on my handload velocities before i got a chrony.

Gman - those are minutes - sorry to answer for the other guy, but that is what they are. Mils would be way over the top at those ranges.

, I'm just trying to equate that to "clicks" assuming 1/4" per click at 100 yards.
For instance, my .308 is 10 clicks up from a 200 yard zero, when shooting at 300 ayrds.

Yeah, the scope on that rifle has 1/4 MOA clicks so you can multiply my numbers by 4 if you want the clicks. Keep in mind there is a slight difference between 1/4" clicks and 1/4 MOA clicks. Even with that said some scopes don't click what they should.
The reason I thought it was obvious (not being a smartass) is...if it was mils it would be in 1/10ths (.8, 2.1, 3.6 etc) and if it was clicks it would have been whole numbers.
