The city plans to appeal - and qualified immunity will again be before the Supreme Court .

The toaster was disrespecting their authority. Why did they fuck up the appliances?
Assholes plying their trade.@nikerret probably can explain it.
My guess is that they had the munchies? Roid rage? All kitted up and needed to kick ass? Or a combination

Yes it indeed is absolutely insane 1 did you catch where the lady’s attorney said it was one of the first victories in modern history to actually get a PD/ or city to pay for what they destroyed while “doing the job”?The qualified immunity stuff is utter insanity.

Are you saying that you don't have a possible reason as to why they did it?Nope. It doesn’t make sense, to me. The bad guy let the hostages go. Why not just cut the power and water and wait for him to come out. If you hear a shot, return fire or make entry, as appropriate.
I get your point, but it is a lot when insurance won't cover it and you're trying to sell your house (sound's like they lost the sale they had pending). They also probably need someone like Servpro to come in and clean up the dead body "residue". There's a lot of non-monetary damages in this. The fucking dog is even deaf and blind now. Surprised it's still alive actually. To be fair, $60k in damages to a nice home isn't that much, especially when you're trying to make a point in court. I run a construction company. And $60k won't get you very far in a renovation. My comment isn't related to the incident, just the amount. I could probably do $60k in damages in a house by myself with a claw hammer in about 10 minutes.
Yep, you jumped straight to the arguement I wasn't making. I agree with what you're saying, and again, I'm only saying that in 2023 $60k in repairs isn't that much. I've seen falling tree limbs cause more damage than that in a single incident.I get your point, but it is a lot when insurance won't cover it and you're trying to sell your house (sound's like they lost the sale they had pending). I think the point isn't the monetary value as much as the fact that it was $60k+ in UNNECESSARY damages.
The whole line of "everyone hates the police until they need them" is going away fast. Folks are starting to realize they may be better off NOT calling the police.
I think you missed the part where I literally started with "I get your point" which I agree with.Yep, you jumped straight to the arguement I wasn't making. Police Owe Nothing To Man Whose Home They Blew Up, Appeals Court Says
A federal appeals court ruled this week that a Colorado man whose house suffered significant damage in a police operation in 2015 isn't entitled to any money. He says he's now $400,000 in debt.www.npr.org
Jesus christ where do you guys live?? A few more $ and you could take a full community college plumbing course. Not saying you don't know how to set your own toilet but the point stands. We are getting our entire guest full bathroom completely gutted and renovated for under $10k. Our last complete kitchen reno (we did mostly ourselves) was around $8-9K. I could do quite a bit with $60k here, with a hybrid of sweat equity and contract work.``No shit, try hiring a plumber these days. The last one I called wanted $250 to set a toilet, my own toilet. that's where reviews come in. Maybe it's different where other people live, but contractors are a dime a dozen around here. I can't think of much I can't do when it comes to home renovations/repairs, but I do pay when it's something I don't WANT to do. Most of this stuff just takes some time to learn, I can't really say any of the contractors i've dealt with were necessarily above average intelligence, they just had someone teach them at some point. The bigger problem isn't the price...it's finding someone who wont fuck up the job. I don't mind paying good money for a job I can't handle myself, but you better do the job better then you would do in your own home (then again...who knows what their houses look like LOL)
no i get that, i was more speaking to the fact of the rate he was charging for it.He was there for something else. I did end up doing it my self.

No shit. I hired an electrical company to do some extensive wiring in a garage conversion. He had done the rough in and just before the sheet rockers came I happened to notice that there was no wire from the switch to the outside light. Had I not caught that all that drywall would have had to come out. Then the same guy put a 220 plug in the wrong place, fortunately the cord reached anyway. Finally I had to call him back because two sockets in the bed room didnt work. Turns out there was a broken wire. Fucker didnt even check the circuit before signing off on it.The bigger problem isn't the price...it's finding someone who wont fuck up the job. *YourYOU'RE sweat equity isnt supposed to be included in the insurance quote. The insurance is to pay for competent contractors to do it. If you want to do it and save thats on you.
Even with good reviews, sometimes they just fuck up a job. Had that happen 2 weeks ago with a stamped concrete patio. Not exactly sure the scenario, but in one corner they troweled some of the release coloring into the base color. Looks like shit on an otherwise beautiful patio. Waiting on replacement of the entire slab (which I was surprised he offered to do..so maybe he does value his reputation). At least down here in NC, there are many choices for contractors. Where I lived in PA they were few and far between, and most of them were primadonnas.that's where reviews come in. That sucks. In our new house I see all the little details that the last owner paid for a job that has me shaking my head. Like shit grout lines, abysmal trim work, etc., etc.Even with good reviews, sometimes they just fuck up a job. Had that happen 2 weeks ago with a stamped concrete patio. I get how insurance works. Damage evaluations are what they are. I've also had damages paid for (by insurance) for vehicle damages that i've bought the parts and done the work myself. My insurance was fine with that. If your's is not, I'd find a different company. They generally only care about the payout.
"The insurance is to pay for competent contractors to do it."
Not correct. Now if you're saying your time value is not included in the valuation, that would be correct, but more times than not you can take the insurance check and do your own work. Check with your insurance company. I have USAA.
It isn't that much damage. I get it, you have no idea what construction costs, but I do. This is my life. $60k is nothing. You can put $60k in cabinets in your kitchen pretty easily. You can put $60k in hardwood floors pretty quickly. Start pricing some custom tile work and You might not get a kitchen finished for $60k. I've seen people put $60k into a privacy fence. We are building some custom awnings for a home right now that will be twice that much. Again, it isn't that much. In 2023, standing homes in my area are selling for about $200 sq/f. It's more than that if you want it built, and might be twice that much if you want it built by the best with high end material. It's ok guys, $60k isn't THAT much damage...
It's swat not the ATF.They deafened and blinded her daughters dog too.
At least they didn't kill the dog, burn the house down and kill her daughter.
See you gotta learn to look at the world as glass half fool.
Right, cause only experts in the construction industry (ooohhh…ahhhh) know what shit costs. Not the people that pay them. Did you ever stop and think that MAYBE, shit isn’t as much in one area as it is another. Maybe I just get special discounts. It isn't that much damage. You are probably not taking into consideration the location of the house. Different regions have different rates. Also (disclosure: I didn't read enough to see when the incident happened) How long ago did this happen? Years ago? Even four years ago contractor rates were probably a third less than they are now. As well as material costs. It isn't that much damage. I get it, you have no idea what construction costs, but I do. This is my life. $60k is nothing. I live in the middle of nowhere TN, and I am currently building commercial and residential in 9 different states. We will work in about 20 states before the year is out. Maybe you live on another planet and have some magical situation that the rest of the country has somehow avoided. I'm sure the construction you're involved in for your own personal consumption is enough to tell me what I need to know. My department will do about $25 million this year across the US. The company I work for will do about $80 mil total. But tell me again how much you know. Remember, you engaged me with your bullshit, I've never even seen you before today. You have no idea what you're talking about, so just quit now.Right, cause only experts in the construction industry (ooohhh…ahhhh) know what shit costs. Not the people that pay them. I’m super impressed by your credentials. Since your expertise doesn’t allow you to pick up sarcasm, there are not discounts to speak of (and lowes doesn’t discount building materials). You act like you are the only one to ever build anything. I guess the people that pay you don’t know how much shit costs either, huh. They just write you a blank check and never get a bank statement I guess.I live in the middle of nowhere TN, and I am currently building commercial and residential in 9 different states. And you get special discounts? You talking about the 10% at lowes and home depot that we all get? I'm former infantry too, but it isn't the crux of my identity. I buy materials for significantly less than that weak ass discount. You don't know what you don't know.
I read about the first sentence of this bullshit and stopped. You're a waste of oxygen. I'm done. Find someone else's time to waste.I’m super impressed by your credentials. You sound real offended to bring up the whole infantry thing, but makes sense hearing you talk now.
And remember, you’re the one who decided you would impart us with all your wisdom, knowing full well the cost was never the point, and just wanted to throw in your “well achtually” reply just to impress us. I’ll be sure to tell every contractor I’ve ever hired that some offended guy on the internet says they are under charging and they should take him super duper seriously because of how awesome his department is.
Also…it’s just the internet dude. Take a breath![]()
You’re right, I apologize. Im sure it’s hard for you to bullshit on the internet during the middle of a Thursday while *checks notes* running a multimillion dollar construction company.I read about the first sentence of this bullshit and stopped. Good oneOh, you want to keep this up..
Sigh, well attempting to explain things to you in the middle of the day on a Thursday isn't nearly as time consuming as keeping your mother plied with dick pics. That's basically a full time job, she's an addict.
Now, let's just stop before we get really ugly. I don't have time for this bullshit.
No, he sent them to me instead. It’s getting weird now.So did mom get dick pics or what? Don’t leave me hanging, assholes.
Can I have one just one thread that doesn’t end in dick pics to someone’s mom? Fuck this why we can’t have nice things .
