any opinions on the barrell life of a 700 pss .308 barrell life, with 800 rounds down the tube and same wear and tear on the action, but well maintained?

it's basically as good as new. it will cost you more than the price of the rifle if you buy enough ammo to finish off that barrel.

Last PSS barrel I shot out went just a tad over 10k rounds and was still producing moa sized groups when replaced.
Bore scope at the Shilen shop revealed the middle 6 inches of rifling was worn smooth.

You have some time left on the barrel.

7-8k is not uncommon.
