Just hazarding a guess also here - but IIRC there is a import dues cost. My guess that by having AINA build stuff here, the cost of the overall rifle was lower avoiding import costs. Now that the AT-X is manufactured entirely in the UK, the tax value is on the entire rifle, not just the action, so the cost is higher. However this all guessing - since I have zero visibility into AI's operations.

Man you’re really not getting it. The AT-X turned into the AT-XC which means it’s discontinued, the literature says the AT and AXSA will be too. How much clearer does it need to be spelled out for you?

Unless they release something else or decide not to discontinue one of the models they say they are then yes this will be the only SA model.

They basically pricing them right in the middle of a bare bones AT and the AXSA.

I’m sure there will still be cheap AT’s and AX’s second hand because they’re pretty undesirable compared to modern chassis designs. Regardless, the second hand market in no way dictates new retail on rifles. Im sure the ATX hurt the sales of AT’s and AX’s too, why would you buy an AT for basically the same money or an AX for more money over the better chassis design with the same action? It would be crazy unless you just want it.

I think AI is doing the right thing moving forward with this model as their sole short action rifle. I just hope that they’ll sell the LE/Mil model to anyone wanting a shorter forend to run 16” barrels and you won’t have to be a LE/Mil entity to buy it like the previous models with the LE designation.

I don’t see what peoples fascination is with MLOK. They would also have to increase the dimensions of the forend or reduce the material and strength of it to keep the same dimensions in order to have clearance for the MLOK nuts and be able to remove and I stall barrels or clear truck axle contours and people would bitch about that. The keyslot works and there is nothing wrong with it other than people have it in their heads that they need MLOK because it’s the current hot thing. What do you need to attach to a AI rifle forend that you can attach with the keyslot or picatinny on the keyslot? Because I’ve never found anything I couldn’t attach to any of mine or anything that gave me trouble attaching.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for AI to produce 223 or magnum stuff. If you want it bad enough though there are options. I’m sure it won’t be long until the people doing 223 and short mag conversions for previous SA models are doing them for these.

The AXSR’s have been out for a while now which is their replacement, I think if people were going to dump AXMC’s and used value drop it would have happened by now. For the most part I think people just don’t part with them and there’s not as many in the wild as the SA rifles. The fact the AXSR’s are like 10-11K probably helps keep their value up too.

Gen 1 AX’s and AW’s got dumped cheap when the quick lock rifles released in 2014, then the LFP quick locks went for cheap when SFP stuff came available even though you could buy a conversion bolt (if you could find one). Now recently AXSA’s have been selling for as low as $3500 since the ATX’s released. The AXMC’s never really saw the trend and I doubt it will happen.

I have an AXMC and I wouldn’t sell it for anything that is currently available for the money. But I am also too invested in it. . But I have seen a few for sale in the 6500 to 7500 range. Great bargain if you can find one in that range. I think AI is making the right call here and streaming their lineup.

I’m in the market for another AI within the next few months. I had a decked out Gen 1 ATX that I let go 2 years ago. Had always intended on grabbing another or actually 2. Now with this news I’m debating on holding off and grabbing one to see, but on the other hand, as many have mentioned I could grab another ATX and kit it out pretty nice like I use to have for the same money or less. My only concern is how much will those older ATX still be supported by AI. I’ve already been on the lookout for ancillary add ons like the high action rail and other parts that have seemed to be out of stock for months with no idea when shit is coming back.

The folding stock feature is nice but let’s face it, a $250 hinge doesn’t justify a $2200-2400 price increase. Maybe if it was the better AXSR style stocks like they promised 2 years ago it might be more justifiable. Also, the ATX pre orders we were told late spring (May iirc) and the first batches didn’t start dropping until September. I have a few months to wait while my shoulder heals from surgery but I’m not gonna be waiting all summer.

People are getting wound up about the long rail and folder hinge while the redesigned action (slimmer, lighter, increased number of bolts, gas pressure blast discs, different bolt lift allegedly etc.) is where the juice is. The 'standard model' AT-XC will be a good option for most shooters.

There is nothing wrong with buying one of those and adding your own muzzle brake, weights and bag rider based off personal preference down the track as required.

Fortunately I own an AXSR and a Gen1 AT-X, with my preference absolutely going to the AXSR in terms of feel, function and small detail refinements. If AI can merge these two rifles together, well that's excellent.



The AT has been around for a long time on the back of the AE and AW while the AX has been around since before 2014. LE versions pumped some more air into their tyres... But surely at some point a company has to move on and cut away older designs. Parts and serviceability of course needs to be managed with thousands of these rifles in circulation however continuing to make these rifles while they're not multiple generations ahead doesn't make a lot of sense unless the market is absolutely frothing over stock.

They are technically all the same but the there was a specific High action rail made for the ATX to make sure it aligned with the longer picatinny rail on the fore ends. The AX rail and the original high rail for the AT would not align correctly. So the high action rail for the ATX has been out of stock at both EO & MH for several months now. Maybe they are just waiting to restock until after the new year/new models come out. But the availability of parts being in stock as been pretty scares since launch.

Congrats. I used to see guys brag about winning matches with a Savage rifle. When that happened people would say it didn’t matter what rifle the shooter used because they would have won anyways. So, did you win the match or did the rifle win the match?

My statements are more tounge and cheek and playful than serious. It’s kinda a running joke that no one can win a match with an AI due to the heavy bolt lift, throw on top of that the new AT-XC and the ATX being discontinued and it’s even funnier.

I truly believe it’s the Indian, not the arrow. Having said that, I would not have won the match if I was running another rifle because I do not have familiarity with another rifle / system. I have been only running AI’s for at least 5years and the same rifle for at least two (Gen 1 ATX). Fear the man with one gun mentality.

Additionally, I no longer shoot PRS. I shoot field and team matches that require you to know your gear and be proficient in using that gear in the elements, with time restrictions, and sometimes under duress. Most of the field and team matches are blind stages and all are find / range / engage on the clock.

Definitely. As much as I complain about the bolt lift, it was less noticeable after a few months of use. Then I switched to another rifle and felt like I was going to rip the bolt off lol.

As much as we hate to hear people complaining, it does lead to innovation. Garmin, for instance, was listening.

I’m not exactly sure, but both magazines I have for my ATX had issues with feeding 6.5CM and occasionally rounds would pop out of the magazine when inserting it. I sent both to AI and they adjusted the lips and I think they replaced both inserts as well because one of my magazines (the heavily used one) came back with a new insert. The other magazine’s insert, I couldn’t tell if it replaced because it was a new magazine.
I suspect that’s part of the optimization.

That's the unit I want I just need to find someone who ships here. The paracord was just to get me out of the house with a sling haha.

It's been covered to death but I would describe the bolt lift as stiff with the detent positions being quite noticeable. My AE is noticeably smoother after well over 100,000 cycles so I am sure it will break in.

I'm sure everyone knows what they look like at this point but here is mine. Waiting on a handguard wrap, stock hinge, Deluxe Ergo Grip, sling swivels, and magazines.

I thought the silver/gold Heathen 2 looked kind of gaudy. It looks like a deadbolt latch. Hopefully it works well.

Does the cut in the AE forward of the mag well make much difference in how the rifle sits on a barricade?
I‘d thought about the ability to do this on the AE/AW and how it would easily “modernise” the chassis.

Yes without a bag, or sometimes with the sling thrown under it, it made a great impromptu barricade press that allowed it to sit flat. I really liked it for big fence posts and my Hog Saddle as you can see in the picture.

Not my original idea though. Someone, possibly on the hide a decade ago, made a little tutorial on cutting a barricade press slot like that in Viper Skins and that inspired me. It isn't solid plastic so it was pretty easy.

Hit the range yesterday and fired 3 rounds of 130gr Terminal Ascent, which is loaded in small rifle primer brass, all the primers looked like shit and one of them backed out a smidge. When I got home and cleaned the rifle I discovered a bit of carbon on the firing pin, so I guess the one that backed out must have released some gas.

Everything else functioned just fine, although a few of the Hornady 140gr ELD-M seemed like they might have had slightly harder bolt lift than the others. No issues at all with any primers in the large rifle primer brass.

This particular barrel continues to display an affinity for Hornady ELD-M’s.

When you say looked like shit are you talking cratering? I see you have SFP bolt already. We ran CCI 450 in my buddies rifle. They have a harder cup on them and didn’t crater once the firing pin hole was bushed

I don’t have a headspace gauge, but fired brass was .005” longer than unfired measured with the SAC comparator on a Lyman dial caliper.

As a precaution I pulled the barrel, removed the top bridge to expose the front of the receiver and threads. I then thoroughly scrubbed the barrel shoulder, barrel tenon threads, receiver face, and the threaded portion of the receiver that accepts the barrel. I had recently had the barrel off to install the top bridge (which I just now discovered is not necessary) so there’s a possibility that some bit of debris was interfering with those mating surfaces. I then reinstalled everything and used a wrench to ever so slightly snug up the barrel into the receiver so headspace is biased towards being more minimum than maximum.

I will now torque the barrel lock nut to 55in-lbs, and reinstall the top bridge and torque those fasteners to spec.

I’m sure it’s not your issue but if you just cleaned it make sure you don’t have residual oil in the chamber.
