accuracy of 223 Wylde vs 5.56 NATO chamber

Re: accuracy of 223 Wylde vs 5.56 NATO chamber

I cannot attest to the accuracy of the Wylde chamber for I have not shot one.
That said I have a DPMS Mark 12 with a 5.56 chamber that will shoot five rounds of 62 gr. ATI into .147 at 100 yds.

They both suck.

I ordered a custom reamer from Manson based on 223 Rem SAAMI, but .250" neck [no turn] and .030" shorter throat. Built two rifles with Douglas 1 in 16" twist barrels, and both shot sub moa.

My factory rifles with NATO chambers are stuck at 1.05" 5 shots at 100 yards, and can never do any better.

Carbon?
Try blue Dot.
It will not cycle an AR.
Shoot the AR single shot at rodents.

wow.......I don't normally comment on such claims but.......

1. DPMS is notorious for tight chambers (more like 223 than 5.56) to eek a little more accuracy. That's all good until you put some hot 5.56 loads into that chamber

2. .147........really? 5 rounds.......really? Turkish Mil-Specish factory loadings.......really????

I can only assume you, your turkish ammo and that gas gun are on the road cleaning-up in short range benchrest matches......

btw......to the op: All things equal...Wylde will be more accurate. I notice a difference between wylde and 5.56 but not so much between a Wylde and 223....at least in factory chambers. IF I could, all of my AR's would have a wylde chamber.

I have three AR uppers that have Wylde chambers and all three will easily shoot 1/2 moa or better at 100 yards with my handloads.

Re: accuracy of 223 Wylde vs 5.56 NATO chamber

The Wylde chamber was designed by Bil Wylde. He is one of the original people to work onthe AR as a target rifle. The chamber is designed for both function and accuracy.
For function is has generous body dimensions. For accuracy it has a smaller throat diameter. It also has become the most popular chamber for service rifle shooters. Part of the reason is that John Holliger (White Oak), Satern Barrels, and Rock River, and numerous others use it as their standard chamber.

Forgot to add:
All .223 chambers are subject to carbon build up when using heavy bullet and stout powder charges. JB or USP the throat every 200-300 rounds and no problem at all.
