Hello Good People,

Just wondering, is $5199 a good price for this particular config? It's NIB.

I've been thinking about one for a while, but hadn't seriously priced them.

Wow, pre-2009 Tac Pro price looks like $6200, so I'd guess you're about right on the current price.

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

Its less than I paid for mine used....(but like new

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

To me that sounds outrageous. You can build a rifle with a badger action and have Gap do the work for half that price, and it would be just as accurate if not more accurate. I will have around 2800 bucks in mine when it is done and i know it will shoot as good as anything can. Just my opinion though, and believe me it isnt worth all that much!! Lee

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

If it is any help I paid £4,000 for my AW .308 five years ago ($6,600 at todays exchange rate) only difference in spec is I have a heavy, fluted 26" barrel, no butt spike and the AI dovetail, not a Pic rail.

Sounds ike a great deal to me.......

Put a Badger Build next to an AW and you'll see for yourself that they are NOT equals by any stretch of the imagination.

Also, I think $2800 is a tad light for a BO build unless you are getting the smithing done for free and not painting the metal.

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely take this into consideration.

Obviously someone has never used on in person. That's like saying your tasco is just as good as a USO, why not keep the cash. Not to mention how do you get $2800 for a M2008 full custom build ?

Also don't forget about the resale factor, AIs have consistently held their value over the years if not making money.

Customer support from AI in US from Stacey is top notch, not to mention the lack of need - I 've been shooting in sandy windy conditions lately. Some of my other "custom" rifles that were in the $3k+ mark started boggin down with crud in the action. The AI has been a champ.

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

Skeetlee, yeah I can buy a clone of many things.....but I never do because they never seem to really equal the original. With that being said I think there is merit to the statement made on the hide many times that most shooters do not need what an AI brings to the table. Perhaps in choosing the Badger route, those items are of no need for you. But I do like reveling in the thought that should I find myself with rifle in hand in sub zero conditions I wont likely need to piss on my action to get it open

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

Love the GAP rifles but I finally got a taste of the AIAW and nothing compares to it within my own standards.

At that price I wouldn't pass it up. There is always time to build a GAP down the road.... But a deal like that, wow.... Never would happen to me...

Best of luck,

j-

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

I have a couple GAP rifles that will do the job, but I ran across a smokin deal on a 98 AW and took a chance. I will say there is nothing quite like it.

My GA builds are both on Remington receivers, so they are nothing like a full custom Surgen or Badger build. There is no doubt George or a few other smiths can build a stick that will shoot just as well, but you wont regret the AW.

I have shot two groups in the .9 range at 300 in the last month. the only thing I didn't like was the metric threads. The bright side is there is room to wipe them off and put on 5/8" threads without disturbing the crown.

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

Called in and paid it off yesterday. Range report forthcoming when I get some more ammo and some time to break it in.....

Just in case anybody was wondering where the deal came from, it wasn't hard to find. Seriously. Saw it, called, confirmed, and BAM. I never get good deals on stuff, so those of you frustrated by the impression that everything good passes you by just keep your eyes open.

The listing at Impact Guns.

I'm guessing I should stick to 168's and 155 Scenar loads with a 1:12 twist. Can such a twist shoot 175's really well? Or, is that just folklore?

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

Congrats on your new rifle. You'll love it!

I'm putting GMM 168SMK through mine and it shoots well (my best 5 shot goup was 0.462" at 100m - the rifle is capable of better

).

Re:175SMK's - never tried it in my AW but I believe the M40A1 + Unertl x10 rig ran a 1 in 12 twist with 175's

I only use 175 SMK's in my AWP & they shoot 1/8" MOA or better @ 100yds if i do my part.
I only wanted to shoot 175's when i bought mine & called AI about this several years ago When they were down south. They told me that it would shoot them & not to worry about it. They were right.

I'm gonna need to see some pics of your 1/8" moa or better groups please. Post em up!

If you were just going to shoot paper at 100 yards for bragging rights, get you some good Flat Base bench rest bullets from 125 grains on. The Berger 135s shoots and BIB shoot as well. I will put up the 135 FB bullets against any of the popular boat tails for accuracy at short range.

My .308 has a 1:12" twist rate and it loves the 175 gr Black Hills Match ammo. The twist rate will be fine.

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

Thanks for all the replies, gentlemen. I appreciate it very much.

Rifle should be at my FFL tomorrow. Then, the Cali-mandated ten days of painful waiting begins.

Hey Chiller, I don't think Impact Guns does at this time. However, I spied a supposedly lightly used one (looked great in the pic) in the for sale section tonight. Linkage

I don't know the seller or anything, but if you're in the market it might be a good deal. Good luck, man!

You are correct 1/8" MOA CTC = .433" OD

Guys according to the FAQ page my pics need to on a webserver so i can add a link to them, so you can see them.My pics are on my personal pc. Any ideas how i can upload them w/o them being on a webserver/website?

Re: AIAW - Price check on aisle 4

You got it from Impact Guns...? And they delivered..? Thats great news. I ordered my 1st AW from there and all I ended up with was a nice long horror story that I told others who started to buy from there. Maybe they have tunred a new leaf. BTW that was a great price. I paid 5300 for mine last december and thought I got a good deal on a NIB AWP, but it was an plane 1.5 chassis.

My AW certainly cannot do 1/8 moa. Mine is more like 1/2 to 3/4 on a good day. Still trying other loads.

congrats on your purchase and to impact guns.

Yeah, they came through like champs. I've never ordered through them before, so perhaps I just got lucky. I don't know. A well known dealer on SH warned me about them, saying that their prices did not reflect AI's new MSRP's. But, this gun seemed different. As I said before, this was a special order that someone canceled.

I think got a great price for the options on the gun. PLUS, I also got the form fitted Storm case. Also came with a cleaning kit, nice yellow Parker Hale cleaning rod, three 10rd mags, bore guide, and cleaning patches. IIRC, the Storm case is a $300 option, right? Even if it's normally included, I feel good.

Registered it today. It was a joy to behold, and yes, it was exactly as described. My Impact Guns experience was absolutely fantastic. The salesperson I spoke with was Chris, at extension 361. He was great, and the entire process was painless.
