Bear with me here...I own an AICS 2.0 and will likely have it dipped in the near future. I have read a lot of posts where the HK hooks will gouge into the paint, dip, and even Duracote. On top of that, I find they bang around and over all seem a bit clumsy (JMHO).
I don't have the ways or the means, but if one was to mill a piece of metal to match the dimensions of the current front sling attachment point, minus the loops on both sides, then afix the female QD cup to one end,the HK hook damage problem would be solved. Same could be done with the back mount, that piece would need to be bent to 90* to accommodate the QD cup. The QD cup will fit into the recess on the AICS or Viperskins that already exists for the hook loops. I guess the same could be accomplished by a hammer and a bit of skilled welding.
I'm not an engineer or metallurgist, but after seeing the AICS in pieces, I think this would work. If someone knows of a product out there like this, please send me a link. On second thought, someone (read Victor Company) make these and sell them. As a thank you for the idea you could give me a set for free...or hire me as a R&D consultant...just sayin'
