Ok, I have been beating the shit out of the bushes trying to figure out why AI hasn't built a chassis for our Savage lines. I was pretty pissed off at the whole deal after having my knock off AI chassis stolen, and not being able to replace it. So I contacted Derrick from SRT supply and this is the e-mail that I got back. So maybe we need to get knee deep in Savages ass over this one!!!

Good to hear from you. I hope you are doing well.

Your anger at AI is misplaced in this case. I spent four days with them at the SHOT Show in January. One of the items we had on display there was the new AICS for Savage rifles. AI has wanted to put this in production since it was first teased a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the hold up has bee Savage, not AI. It seems that every time AI is ready to go into production, Savage informs them they have made some subtle change to the dimensions of their receiver, or trigger, or something else that will change the inletting on the AICS. So, until Savage settles on a design, AI can’t finalize their production specs. The hope is the new chassis will finally be released this year.

Re: All Savage owners

I smell a rat. B&C, HS, other stocks don't have this problem.

Neither does McRee Precision and XLR Industries. They make chassis systems for multiple Savage models.

For what it's worth, I have gotten to examine a Savage in an XLR chassis and I have to say that I preferred it hands-down over a Remington 700 in an AICS chassis. Plus, it's cheaper. Give Kyle at xlrindustries.com a call.

Re: All Savage owners

I have only had eyes on "1" of these stocks. I have no idea whether or not it was in fact an AI or not, but it sure looked like it. Looked expensive and nice, but not enough for me to worry about it.

I am more of a traditional stock shooter, which is why I went with Manners. My stock is EXCELLENT, and I don't have to worry about whether or not Manners is going to make it. After all the research for a few years now concerning the AI for Savage, I gave up and went on... and didn't lose any sleep over it.

Re: All Savage owners

Bpnelson, thanks I may end up doing that, it just really sucks. I have a AI, and got really use to it, so I ended up putting a Alberta tactical on my Savage. When I came home from my last deploment, some low life piece of shit broke into my house and stole it!! So I guess my only option is to go with something else. But i'm not gonna stop until I have an answer, I freaking hate being lied to!

Billy, I didn't really think about it until you said it, but your right it makes no sense. I'll keep in everyone like a tick on my dogs ass until I get totally shut down from on of these companies!!!

I highly recommend it. But if you're used to using an AICS (in your deployment/enlistment years?) it's hard to break away from a familiar setup. You may have to do the dastardly deed and get a Remington!

Re: All Savage owners

Yea, no thanks. I'm not about to call up savage and tell them to stop the progression of their rifles just so you can have a specific stock, I like a company than constantly strives to improve.

Sorry to hear about your problem with thieves.

Re: All Savage owners

you know its funny that the place in canada that made the similar product had a provision to work with either screw spacing and AI cant figure that out? its been how long now since the first appearance at SHOT? just make it fit the 10fcp or any 4.40" and let everyone revert to the old side bolt release or do that slick side bolt release. can we do that to a savage?

Exactly!!

Re: All Savage owners

I call horse$hit on that explanation.

I put a Savage build on the "back burner" awaiting AI to get off their ass on this.

Having owned both the 1.5 & 2.0 in the past, I decided a Savage build in 6.5 Creed would be the ticket on an AI. Since then, I found Kyle at XLR. Having one of his chassis systems now, the wait for a decent alternative to the AI is over. I'll take the XLR over the AI any day as Kyle doesn't care to cater to the masses.

AI is losing out dragging their feet, it can be done and more than one manufacturer has proven it.

Re: All Savage owners

I actually handeled the AICS for the Savage at the 2011 Shot Show. They had a barreled action in the chassis system displayed in the LE section of the show. I asked if it was a proto-type and they stated no. They were actually going to market it because of the accuracy that Savage rifles were demonstrating and a lot of LE agenies were using them. I would contact them and ask them where they are in getting them to market.

it was at the 2010 show too. still no release date. and the one you handled must be the only one and the same one they have been showing for 2 years?

Re: All Savage owners

Ok after hearing what Bpnelson had to say, I had to come back to Derrick with that same question and this was the response!!!

I don't know for sure. Whatever AI comes up with has to work for existing products as well as any newer variants. That is part of the problem. I will let you know what I find out.

Like I said guys, I don't know where this is going to get me, but I F'n hate being lied to so I'm gonna ride this bitch like redhead!! I'm still waiting on a response from Savage. And believe me I'm not trying to slow the progress of Savage, like it would happen, but dammitt!!!!! I need a new AI type stock.

What is this "existing products" and "newer variants" waffle? Almost any stock maker worth its salt makes stocks for Savage 4.4" and 4.25" screw spaced models. Even if they don't have an "Accustock" model, that still fits over 50% of the current Savage rifles out there (from what it seem like judging by this forum). If they simply made one in 4.4" spacing, I'm sure many people would get a Savage to put in that AICS just as a cheaper alternative to an R700 build. I'm with you on your "lied to" comment. This just doesn't make sense....

"has to work with existing products as well as newer variants"

No, it doesn't. It just has to work with enough products to make it worth the cost of manufacturing. I don't understand....

Re: All Savage owners

i swear when i said that model you all saw was a savage glued into a rem chassis i was just kidding or trying to start some discussion. but alberta tactical has one that works with both spacings. or did until AI said stop making it. and AI had said it would only be making a 1.0 or 1.5 in a release. the one at shot was a 2.0 i believe. i do not know the difference except that the 2.0 is a folder i believe. but thats another inconsistancy

Re: All Savage owners

I talked to the owner of Alberta Tactical, who sold my original stock for my Savage. He was pissed as well, he said that he was just trying to give Savage owners what they needed when AI refused to! He said that all of a sudden AI told him that they had a stock of their own in the works and that he needed to lose his Savage stocks or else!!! He stated that AI told him that they were rolling the chassis's out, "as in now", so it would not be a problem. He stated that he was forced to shut down production within minutes of the phone call!!! I asked if he might have one, or two laying around just so that I could get another one, and he stated that one of his workers took all the paperwork and machinery needed to make them. He also stated that even if he had all of this, he still would not make them due to the threats made by AI!!!!! This thing just sucks all the way around, I give up and am going with another stock. And when my 2 AI's die, they will be the last that I will buy due to this bullshit!!! I will no longer support AI, and our department will no longer buy AI's! LIes, Lies, LIes. thanks to all of you for pointing me with the right questions to ask, I really do appreciate it.
