Guys, The idea my partner and I have is to do a two and a half day / two night; a REAL BASIC Infantry course. This would be a Friday @ 4:00pm start and end on a Sunday at 4pm

    Some details:

    Cost: $400
    Ammunition: 200rnds live, 800rnds blank

Topics we are thinking about on the following subjects:

    Command and Control:

[*]Troop-Leading Procedure[*]Operation Order Format
Security:

[*]Security During Movement[*]Security in the Offense[*]Security in the Defense
Movement:

[*]Fire Team Formations[*]Squad Formations[*]Movement Techniques[*]Actions at Danger Areas
Observation Posts:

[*]Considerations[*]Actions at the Observation Post[*]Squad-Sized Observation Post
PATROLLING

[*]Planning Considerations[*]Rally Points[*]Leader's Reconnaissance of the Objective[*]Reconnaissance Patrol[*]Combat Patrol[*]Patrol Bases[*]Site Selection[*]Planning Considerations[*]Patrol Base Occupation[*]Patrol Base Activities
BATTLE DRILLS

[*]Battle Drill 1A. Squad Attack[*]Battle Drill 2. React to Contact[*]Battle Drill 3. Break Contact
Is there any interest in this kind of training? We have the location to do it at. To include setting up a Patrol Base and do all training out of it. As far as back ground checks (so we get no crazy’s) Your state CCW permit will work for a .civ and active LEO / MIL no issue.

This class would be open to anyone that fits the last three groups.

    Whats your feedback on this?

    Thanks

    John

The best classes I got in the Army were my small unit tactics courses. People don't realize how much you learn how to lead effectively from this stuff. It's not just the patrolling you learn, it's the skills like mission planning, attention to detail, thinking through contingencies, task delegation, positive control of troops, etc. that all come through in a course like this. No shit, I use these skills all the time in my every day life.

I think it's a great idea, John. Depending on how many people you get, you may want them to go over FM 7-8 and the Ranger handbook to get familiar with the basics. The time issue would be tough just because some of the material is dense that a crawl-walk-run methodology may not be able to develop, but still, an opportunity for people who've never done this stuff to experience it is a real neat concept.

...agree that it might be a little ambitious for the amount of time you have, but sounds like fun.

    Guys,

Whats listed are the ideas we want to cover.

People with the know how know its not going to get covered, but we are looking at these topics and will trim it down to a basic level.

The draft is getting done now and we will have at least two classes this summer on the same topics.

So get ready for you all that want to do this. I am working with Rob, my partner and some others on this forum on the layout and topics to cover in the time frame.

Its going to be a great class and since I know of students that want to come, we will go forward with this.

    John,

Small unit tactics. I love it. This could be module one - fundamental formations and movement, followed by your advanced modules with communication and missions with movement, battle scenarios, defensive positions, etc. Keep up the good work out there. You're gonna be one busy guy. Mark

why does a persons job matter if they get to shoot blanks and live ammunition?

    Please explain that to me.

The job has nothing to do with it...the liability protection available to a Mil or LEO agency who conducts such exercises is the issue.

Since you are a business, I suggest you run this one by your liability insurance carrier before you get married to the idea.
