Or another title could be “Why to keep a close eye when an in-experienced shooter is using your chronograph.”
F-1 Chronograph vs. 30-06 150 grain FMJ @ 3060 FPS.
Just a few pictures of the carnage, the bullet grazed the front cover by about ½ of the diameter of the bullet. Based on the damage after the front cover I think the bullet then broke into 2 pieces one punched a large hole lower through the center section and another piece tore through the top part of the center section and continued on to take out the rear sensor. Enjoy the pictures and share a laugh at the expense of my chrono. I wish I had vide of the shot it was quite impressive to see in person.

Re: And now for another episode of is it bullet proof

I insist that anyone who wants to shoot over my chrony do one of two things: 1) place a $100 bill (as a deposit) on the table, or 2) let me do the shooting.

Re: And now for another episode of is it bullet proof

Sharing a bench with a buddy, switching shooters and rifles, dialing down to 6.5x then back up to 20 to check alignment. Then forgetting one time to dial down, I shot the rods on his. Everyone was like "WHOA!!!!" I looked at the velocity on the remote, it read something like 8000fps (unlikly out of a .308). 1st I looked at my self to make sure I was still in one piece, then I looked at the rifle, then I noticed the chrono. Paying for a couple of replacement rods is nothing compared to the rash of shit you endure. Although I did earn it.

for shooters new to cnronies, I tape a small target to the back of the rear sunshade and tell them to aim at that. Dont worry about hitting it, just aim at it. My CED has thanked me by working every time hehehehe

Re: And now for another episode of is it bullet proof

That's why my answer to the question "hey, CBM, do you mind if I shoot a couple through your chrony?" is always sure, shoot as much as you want, but you hit it once, you buy me a new one. As long as we have that understanding from the beginning, I dont mind. And just to be safe and for peace of mind for both parties, I always set up the rifle and look down bore/scope ect.

Re: And now for another episode of is it bullet proof

I thought I was the only one that did this. My wife was there when I shot my Chrony but I made up a good reason as to why it happened. I got a new Ohler out of the deal:)

Re: And now for another episode of is it bullet proof

FWIW after I set up, and before I trigger pull
I hold a bright green laser against the barrel in all 4 Quadrants to see that it does not hit the Chronograph...

Hopefully nobody is negligent enough to shoot the control unit on an Oehler.

It's actually more expensive to shoot a Chrony than an Oehler sky screen. I had a Chrony and when it jumped up in front of a .22 lr, I replaced it with the Oehler. The first sky screen was taken out by a sabot from my ML and it was much easier and cheaper to fix.

Re: And now for another episode of is it bullet proof

That is the best thing to do to a chrony. I have used one just like that for paintball. It worked fine for that.Perfect time to upgrade. If you want to spend the coin a oehler 35p is a great chrono.
