Rifle Scopes Any place sell the Shepard Scope - DRS 6-24×50 S MilDot Cheaper than their MSR price?

Ever see one in the flesh? Bet you'll be a lot less impressed.

Oh. Good to hear... Thank you for that. Sounds you're not all that impressed. Rather than rely on YouTube promos I'll have to hunt on their dealer list and see hwere in Los Angeles there's a place I can see it. I was 'cheaping out' --didn't want to spend as much as I did on my Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56.

Update: Their 'dealer list' is alarmingly limited. That says a lot. Like 6 dealers, one of which is a broken link and two that're FB pages. Hmmm. Maybe not. Thanks!

I did not know they were still in business. Not impressed in the past. The little circle reticule was not a bad idea prior to LRF but dated now.
Scope quality was always low.

Needs more going on in the reticle...

Shepherd scopes seem to be changing and adding new products, so perhaps there will be some improvement. The original design had execution issues. I know that years ago, there were only two brands that SWFA would not take in a trade-in (to sell on the samplelist) and Shepherd was one of them. There were just too many quality issues.

I like that they have their sort of original idea that they are propagating, but the scopes themselves seem a bit behind the time.

For example, with the DRS S scope that is linked earlier int his thread, it is really difficult to adjust parallax when prone. It is a loooong scopes and reaching that AO without disturbing your shooting position is tricky at best.

With all that, Shepherd seems to be a part of Salvo Technologies now, so I am guessing it was acquired at some point. Perhaps that is the reason I see some more conventional FFP scopes there and a few others. It will be itneresting to see how they do going forward.

Whoa. Thank you a TON b6graham! Talked to Doug. He just gave me a staggering KILLER deal on the ARES ETR 4.5-30x56 mildot --Like over $400. off and free shipping because of mentioning you and Sniper's Hide! Day-um! Happy Monday x 10! And that Doug gives what I'd call the damn best customer that side of the country. Puts "friendly and engaging" back in the whole concept of customer service! Family owed and operated.

I've known Doug on and off for a bit over a decade, I think. He is good people.

Just for fun, I have a little history on Shepherd scopes. The inventor (Dan Shepherd) lived a few miles from me, in waterloo, NE. I have an original somewhere in the basement. Back in the early 80's I purchased one of these scopes at a gun show and couldn't figure out how the dual reticle system worked. I called the number on the instructions and Dan invited me to his house on the edge of waterloo. I brought my M70 in 220 swift to him and he had a little 50 yard range in his backyard, where he coached me on how to set the scope up. I was a bit scared of firing such a loud rifle in the city limits of a town, but Dan said it was OK. Well, fired my swift several times to zero the scope according to Dan's instructions, and then put the rifle away in my car, still fearing a visit from the local police. We had a brief conversation, and I left for home. Dan passed away a fer years ago, and I really never found a use for the scope, but it was really quick to get a zero with the thing. I never knew the company was still in business.

I had one on my .30-06. It’s around somewhere. It was way cool for its day. I always thought the dual reticle was brilliant! I wish someone like NF could do something with one. We took elk out to 800 with it!

I ran into these guys yesterday at a trade show and since the scopes look a little different than they have in the past, I picked their brains a little. The IP for the scopes was bought out by Salvo Technologies a couple of years ago, presumably after the founder passed. New scopes seem to be re-engineered mechanically. There is still the issues of them being pretty long and AO being hard to reach, but it looks like they have been updated. In the past, they had a problem holding zero, but with the redesign, I really do not know if that still holds true and the new scopes under new ownership need to be evaluated under their own merits.

Salvo Technologies has other businesses that overlap with my dayjob, and they seem to have a good reputation for knowing what they are doing.

Once I dig through my current backlog, I'll reach out to them and see if I can put one of these scopes through its paces.
