Anymore, does it make sense to build a trainer off of a sporter?

I have a number of factory sporters that I have been telling myself I will have built into precision trainers "one day." CZ452 Varminter, Remington 541THB, Brno Model 1, Remington 540 ... and there have been others, Norinco NS522 comes to mind. But with the factory offerings today -- CZ455 tacticool and PT, Savages offerings, RPRR, Vudoo, etc. Does it even make sense to build an old sporter into a PT, either cost-wise or considering performance? In am thinking of things like feeding from the magazine, extraction, etc. The manufacturers generally have it well sorted out, right? So, are folks here still buying sporters and having custom guns built?

I think the 452 varmint is the only one on your list that is worth modifying (if it even needs modding) into a trainer. I assume you mean a PRS trainer.

Yes, PRS. My 452 shoots very well. It has been bedded, trigger done. I would prefer a different stock but again, for what it would cost ...
The 540 or 541 would make fantastically accurate rifles but the magazine system SUCKS. For a sporter class bench rifle they would work fine but for PRS, not so much. I know Vudoo is worth the cost and I may buy one. I think I will buy the CZ457 PT when they hit stores. We shall see.
Now, what to do with all these sporters, lol.

If you're specifically going for a precision rifle trainer, I'd sell some stuff and get a Vudoo so it's a true trainer.
I love the trainers but I am not really training for anything related to centerfire. The rimfires are my favorite guns. ? I will likely buy the Vudoo and the 457. I have lots of rimfires.? ?
