Looked in the reloading depot and not much there as far as 338 LM. Was wondering if anyone wanted to generate more.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Gun: AIAWSM 338 LM

250 scenars, F215M, Lapua brass, RL25 94.5 grains at 3.600"

300 SMK, Fed215, Lapua brass, RL25 91.5 grains at 3.600".

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

From my Blaser .338LM I use 94.5gr of Retumbo, Lapua Brass N/S with a 364 bushing, gm215M, SPAOL 3.950, Topped with 250 SMK

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Lapua brass, Federal 215 primer, 300 gr Lapua Scenar, 102gr Us869. This recipe has delivered the best accuracy result for me, out of my AR-30.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

those loads of REL 25 are too hot in my gun, I have an old lot that must be faster because when I loaded 91 grains with the 300 SMK then I got 3050 fps out of my 26" tube.
shocked.gif

I would start at 89 grains for the 250 grainers and at 86 grains for the 300 grainers to be safe.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

My rifle has a longer throat, so I can load to 3.750 OAL.

Lapua brass, Fed 215M, 95.0 gr. Retumbo, 300 Scenar.

MV ~ 2880 out of a 28.5" Bartlein 1:9.4.

There appears to be larger than expected variance lot to lot with RL25 lately. This is making Retumbo look like a better option.

FWIW, with my .338LM SRS, this is the load that's currently working best for me:

250 Scenar
Lapua Brass
Fed 215M
94gr RL25
COAL 3.554" (still playing with seating depth)
This gives me approx 3000 fps

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

78 grains of IMR 4350 300 grain scenar at 2730.
82 N560 300 gr. scenar at 2700 fps.
jammed .020
fed m 115
lapua brass

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

lapua brass 81gr of re22 215m, 300gr smk seated .005 of the lands in ar 30

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Lapua Brass, fed 215M, Lapua 300 scenars, 93.4 gr Retumbo, 2800fps 26" Bartlein 5R GAP...I found retumbo very temp stable

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Surgeon XL - own build 9 twist barrel, chamber min SAAMI spec.

94.5g H1000 under Fed 215 and 250 SMK.

Loaded to SAAMI spec (.010" short of mag length)

2980fps, sub half - quarter MOA.

Very stable load.

This also works with 250 Secenar and 250 Lockbase.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

88gr of rl-19 fed 215m

Twist of barrel? Mine is an older AIAWSM with a 1-11" twist barrel. It shoots about .6 MOA with 250 scenars, and 1 moa with 300 SMK's. I'll have to look when I get home to see what the OAL and charge is.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Hunting load:
84.5gr RL 22, CCI #250 primers, 250gr molycoated Sierras, Lapua brass 3.600 OAL. 3050fps & excellent accuracy. Rifle: custom Remy 700, 30" Benchmark 1 in 10 twist.

Good enough to smack down a cow elk at 650 yds two evenings ago....

Didn't like Retumbo personally, found the recoil impulse to be a lot sharper with it over RL 22.

May I ask which rifle, and accuracy for loads above?

Mine:
Lapua B408 250gr LockBase, Lapua brass, Fed 215, COL to light touch, 88gr N560 has been my load for years.
MV 3000, in warm summer day.
Sako TRG42, factory barrel and chamber. Its almost new, replaced by factory.
BTW, advertised twist 12", actual somewhere between 11,4-11,5".

Factory DTA SRS .338LM / 26"bbl / Twist 10"

Was working loads for MAX signs of pressure. Still waiting to fire at distance and hopefully use the 93gr load in lower temperature with less signs of pressure on primer "primer flow".

3 of each in group, total of 18 rounds in below target at 100 yards. Same hold.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Fredo on that 95 gn load was there sings of brass flow by the ejector?? Also what was the CAOL??

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Sako TRG-S M995 action , 30" Rock/ABS 1-9.4" twist barrel.
89.5grs H1000, 87grs RL25 both with the 300gr SMK loaded to 3.785" COAL give me 2775 fps and an average of .75 moa out to 1K.
Just tried 90.5 and 91grs of Retumbo, haven't chronoed yet but looks promising with .5 moa groups at 300yds in testing.
These loads are about max, my rifle seems to get max pressure with less powder then most of the others I've read about.

There is a light mark. Not near as bad as the primer in the photo.

Case was new Lapua factory. I didn't measure each but generally 2.714 to 2.718.

3.75 OAL

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Was the primer flat or still round?? With the deviation jumping like that I'm sure it was maxed out.

It is still round but expanding (flattening), the height of the crater rim was the most significant issue.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong here.

Mine are bit flatter and they aren't a problem.

Agreed.

The below is what i was referring to.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Firing pin hole maybe a little large not a problem, you could have a bushing installed to tighten it.
In your pictures, primers look perfect no sign of flatening.

My gun and load
M-96 Windrunner 30" barrel
.338 Lapua
lapua brass 3.714 trim
250Gn. SMK
90.5 Gn. R-25
Fed 215
OAL 3.680 .025 off rifling
2950 FPS
QL shows 55,590 PSI

I though the same thing. I removed the extractor tried to seat the case on the bolt face to fit the primer in the pin hole, it won't fit back in. Must have expanded after extraction.

Do you know anyone who has continued to use hot loads with this indication, with any negative results?

If this is no problem I'll do a large string with this load (94 grains = 3,178 FPS " *3 FPS Deviation*) to see if the deviation remains near 10 fps or less.

I'll take 200 fps over barrel life any day.

What you are seeing is a bit of cratering. This appears normal for the .338LM.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

+1 for VVN560 and the 250gr bullets....in two different .338LM's it has out performed evrything else I've tried. Great velocity, very uniform and the best accuracy.

Fredo, Good intel!!

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

That VVn560 looks like it really works in the Lap-mag. I found some in a little sporting goods store Monday and was interested until I saw the $34.95 price tag on the one lb. can. I believe I can keep struggling along with Retumbo. I realize the 338LM is never going to be cheap to shoot, but I don't see enough velocity improvement with the N560 to justify the added cost. Also it seems VV powders are not as readily available out here in the sticks.
Thanks for posting your results Fredo, always appreciate useful info!

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Just got doing load work today for one of my 338 rifles.

91 grains H4831 SC
250 Scenar
215M
Lapua brass
Loaded to mag length

.2-.3 at 100 I dont know velocity but its 7.2 mils to 1000. Luckily this is the same for the AW so all I have to do is sort brass between the 2.

Rich

I have offically quit using 300 SMK the 250's shoot so well that I dont think there is a need for 300's anymore.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

All right, I've got about 100 rounds down my AI now and I usually take Black Hills or Lapua ammo and measure the dimensions to guide my reloading as far as ogive to head measurement. I took the simple road this time and went for OAL instead of ogive to head. I use 250 scenars and noticed when I went 3.6-3.62 on OAL I get ~2.95 on ogive to head of cartridge. My Lapua factory is ~2.884 ogive to head. You guys get comparable measurements? Anyone have ogive to head of cartridge measurement on any Black Hills 338 LM.

Thanks

I just measured 4 pc of BH 250's and all measure 2.864 Head to Ogive

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

I may stay at ~2.95 then on my ogive to head measurements. I haven't had any noticeable pressure problems. The tips of the bullets always get deformed after seating so I feel the OAL measurement is not as consistent as ogive. Thanks for the measurements on the BH.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

I measured today with an empty case and projectile and it appears from lands to face of bolt is 2.944". A little too close for comfort so I think I'll back off to 2.88-2.9 LOL.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Im shooting a custom from Predator Custom Shop Knoxville Tn.338LPM
REM 700 Action, AI 1.5 chassis, Rock Creek 5R amu contour fluted barrel 1-10 twist 27" long, sure fire muzzle brake, REM trigger, S&B 5-25x56 PM2 glass.

My loads:
300gr Lapua Schenar or Sierra Match king, Lapua brass, Fed GM215m primer, Hodgdon H1000 88grs. Rifle prints consistant 1/4 MOA groups. Chronoed at 2675FPS, fast enough for me.
250gr Sierra Match king, Lapua brass, Fed GM215m primer, IMR 4350 84gr. Consistant 1/2 MOA groups. Chronoed at 2950FPS

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

What are going to be the disadvantages of using the cci magnum primers?I notice just about everyone is using federal.Out of all the powders listed above which powder creates the most consistent velocities?

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

yes i have a great hunting load 97 grains H1000 with 225 barnes tip triple shock at 2910fps. i would start at 95gr and go up

I've used CCI LR Magnums out of necessity without any problems.

Re: Anyone want to share any 338 LM load data?

Haven't had the opportunity to try the CCIs with my Lapua's loads. Im difinitly all for it though considering thats what I use for all my other loads for various rifle calibers. The CCI BR2 is a great product. I have no reason to doubt that their magnum primers would be any different. I cant find any to try out though.

Don't you mean In Front Of?

The way you are loading, the powder will fall out.
