User Name: JasonB (aka jayd4wg)
Match: 50Y-4P
Sight Class: S (BSA 4-16 Mildot)
Rifle: Marlin 882SSV
Caliber: .22WMR
Ammo: CCI 40gr. JHP
Target # 1 - 47-0x
Target # 2 - 48-3x
Target # 3 - 49-2x
Target # 4 - 47-1x
Target # 5 - 49-2x
Total Score: 240-8x

This is the first time i've scored a target, thus the reason I posted the target itself. any shot that cut a line was counted as the lower score, and the 3x's on the last prone target got counted as 2 because of the cut line.
Not the rifles favorite ammo. Son wanted to go out and shoot yesterday so we stopped at wally world and grabbed a box of bullets. He shot half and was frustrated with the scope and decided he didn't want to shoot anymore so i put one of these targets up. For some reason when shooting I reversed the first and fourth targets (shot prone on the top left and freehand on bottom left). Nice windless day, and thank God for sun shades cus the late afternoon sun sets right over the targets and the scope flares right up when the sun hits it.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

well then...that raises the score a little then doesn't it? Thanks

as soon as I score a couple more boxes of the hornady stuff I'll re-shoot. There's <span style="text-decoration: line-through">probably</span> definitely a good bit of luck involved with this target and the CCI ammo. Typically the CCI stuff is 1.5" groups off of bag and bipod at 50 yards. the Hornady stuff is ragged hole.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

I thought I'd give this a go. I learned: my rifle scope needs set foreward for different positions, cheap rimfire ammo still sucks, and that I need to do this more often. It was really windy, so I stuck to 25 yards.

Here's a good practice target printed on a single sheet, but without the x ring http://www.tgscom.com/images/sharedimages/GlockFAQ/bullseyenumbered_1inch_5.pdf

Re: APRIL 2010 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

As dumb as this sounds, can someone tell me or point me to a source that shows how to score a target?? I shot the 25yd target over the weekend, but I don't know how to score it.. I'm not following the 49-4x format??

Re: APRIL 2010 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Here you go;

Scoring
If a hole breaks a ring the higher score is given.
If unsure use a scoring gauge.

April 2010 Scores:

Upper Target;

Match: 25Y-4P
Class: A (TSR200 Aperture)
Rifle: Ruger 10/22 (Factory Wood Stock)
Caliber: .22LR
Ammo: Federal #745
TLB: 44-0x (offhand)
TRB: 49-1x (kneeling)
CB: 47-0x (setting)
LLB: 45-1x (prone - unsupported)
LRB: 48-1x (prone - unsupported)
Total Score: 233-3x

Lower Target;

Match: 25Y-4P
Class: O (Open Sight)
Rifle: Marlin 925
Caliber: .22LR
Ammo: Winchester X22LR
TLB: 47-1x (offhand)
TRB: 45-1x (kneeling)
CB: 47-0x (setting)
LLB: 45-2x (prone - unsupported)
LRB: 47-0x (prone - unsupported)
Total Score: 231-4x

Notes: On the lower target - bull (LLB) the 8 o'clock shot on the edge of the 7 Ring did cut it - though ever so little - it still caught it for 7 points.

Also on the upper target - bull (TRB) that is about as good of five shot group I've ever shot with the TSR200 Aperture Sights and it came when shooting from the kneeling position. I thought that was interesting.

It seems I shoot about the same scores with Open Sights as I do with the Military style TSR200 Aperture Sights, which is ok.

Again, another enjoyable outing as usual.

Thanks Clodhopper. I got the calipers out and as best I can tell the outside of the hole measures .242 from the line. I'm sure happy with that group even if it didn't make it to 50 points.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

OK, I finally got around to getting my target out and scoring it up. This was at 25yds, I tried 50yds and it was pretty much embarrassing. I'll have to work up to it lol.

If I didn't score it correctly please let me know!

25 yard 4p

Name; Clodhopper
Match; 25Y 4P
Sight class; S
Rifle 10-22
Caliber; .22 LR
Ammo; CCI Blazer
TLB; 44 1-X
TRB; 47 0
CB; 46 0
LLB; 49 1-X
LRB; 47 0 Fired with out pod
Total 237 2-X

woulda coulda shouda.
Re zeroed the rifle after some 100 yard shooting.
Thought it was good, but the results on this target say "ya screwed up cloddy"
2 minutes lower would not have helped the standing, or the kneeling. but would have made the sitting 50 5-X first prone 50 3-X and second prone 50 5-X
Come on May...do over every month!

Thanks to all that participated this month, and your input in the learnings thread. Looking at the different styles of rifles and ammos being used both in the short range and long range matches and the tips and tricks shared, it's turning out to be a good source of information. Thanks to JOE MARTIN for starting it last year.

The "rivalry" between CLODHOPPER and JOE MARTIN continues in Aperature class with CLODHOPPER swapping top spot with JOE this time around.

MSCOTT "beamed up" to the top spot in the 25 yard scoped class.

We gained a few more shooters this month, MSCOTT, JASONB, BIGDKC. Hope to get a few more in May.

"<span style="font-weight: bold">May</span>" you shoot straight next month!
