Army M24 Build Thread
I recently picked up an M24 Rebuild and found both this thread/old one immensely helpful. Thanks.
-I haven't shot the gun but plan on putting some Fed Gold Match through it to see how it groups. I would also like to find some decent (does not need to be match) .308 ammo that is good for plinking and reasonably accurate. If possible, I would like to find some ammo that could get close to matching the M3A Ultra BDC markings. Any suggestions? I'm fine with a bulk purchase too.
-Anyone know why Fed Gold Match is so inexpensive right now? I recently checked prices and found $17-18 a box. That's cheaper than late 90's prices!
I'll get some pictures of my rifle up soon. I'm going to spray the barrel/action and try to match the original spray paint on the stock/scope/bipod. It looks like Aervoe.
Thanks again and glad to see this thread is now sticky.
OK Sports Fans or should I say M24 fans. I still have access to the 2nd old M24 Build thread. I started that one by linking it back to the original so I'll help you out again and here it is:What happened to the old M24 thread that should have still been here??
I don't think I have the Ultra because the bottom of my scope doesn't say "Ultra" but the turrets look the same. Also did they ever make a M118LR turret for the M24 scope?
Mk4 M1's (4.5-14) almost certainly made their way on M24's as they were in the system.Does anybody know if any other scopes were used on the M24? Obviously the fixed 10x Leupold was issued with the system but did they use the 3-10x Leupold at all? I want to get a period/system correct scope for my M24 and for whatever reason the 3-10x are much more affordable then the fixed 10x.
The Leupold Ultra/Mark 4 M3A was the most prominent scope seen. SOF updated optics to the Mark 4 M3LR 3.5-10 (FFP) some time prior to 08' but I'm not exactly sure on the date. SOF also fielded the Nightforce NXS 3.5-15 on the Mk13s around that same time period and it was not uncommon to see M24s wearing NF glass into the twilight years, 10' to 12'. I've never seen a Mark 4 M1 4.5-14x on a M24, Not saying it couldn't have happened but its doubtful as I haven't meet to many other snipers who have cared for. The M1 dials while more precise aren't particularly fast and easy to get lost in under stress, the extra 4x is nice but the SFP setup is a trade off most of us wouldn't take.Does anybody know if any other scopes were used on the M24?
