I just got this within an ASA update email:

Current NFA wait times are hovering at about 11 months according to NFATracker.com. One of ASA's staff received an approval in the last two weeks that was postmarked to NFA on July 12, 2016. We've also spoken with several dealers that have received the last of their pre-41F submissions in the past few days.

In a conversation with ATF this week they confirmed that they should have the last remaining pre-41F forms processed in the next week. They anticipate wait times to begin dropping shortly.

With the new process the wait times should decline since they are keeping info on file for 2 yrs but this is good to hear. I bought my first one in 2010 and my most recent approval was 2 months ago. In that entire time frame, I think my quickest was 10 months. It may be about time to add another TBAC to the collection.

Define dropping. If we hit 8 months on average technically they could say the times have dropped. While I believe it will drop well below that we still need to remember this is our tax dollars at work where speed and efficiency doesn't exist in their world.

A big question I have is how much staff will they retain after the pre-41f forms are finally processed and they start on the post-41f forms. That should be a good indicator how fast things move along. That and I'm still curious the number of forms submitted after July 13 to the present.

Some of us remember that in 2015, wait times were hovering around 5-6 months. While that still seemed like an awfully long time, it's not unreasonable to expect wait times to return to that level, assuming all else is equal.

You are correct. It was early December 2015. I have held off ordering another since then, but am starting to itch for a .338 can and may look at getting one towards the end of this year. We shall see what wait times look like then.

My last purchase was a can that a local dealer had in stock - took a little over 8mo, from April '16 to late Dec. '16. Just had another local dealer order another 22RF can - won't even have it into his hands for another month or so. Would be great if the post-41f wait times fall off quickly to the tolerable 4 mo it took to get my Ultra 7.

I still have a couple pre-41 forms waiting. I sent in 2 sets a few days apart, the first set has been back for a couple months. My guess is it will drop off significantly until the ATF settles back down.
