Atlas bipod for the AICS question

Just received a new Atlas for my AICS and had a few question from installing and observing it.

1) My spigot does not stay locked in requiring the pushing of the release button on the stock and will pull right out. Is this as it is intended?

2) There is some slop between the 2 milled horizontal surfaces one on the bipod and one on the stock allowing the gun to twist or cant freely a few degrees each way before it hits the pre-loaded resistance built into the bipod. I find this annoying. Is this also how it is intended?

3) I'm not understanding the directions regarding the twist lock or tension device under the bipod. Mine does not turn but with a tremendous amount of effort and then only a little bit. Should I just leave it as it came for the amount of pre-load tension?

Thanks for any and all input.

No, but if you have a spigot lock, it might not be "out" all the way, try tapping the knob on something, then tapping the spigot, until it moves freely. If you don't have a spigot lock, then something must be wrong.

There is a bit of slop, this is because if tolerances were made exact, the spigot adapter may be milled too tight for some AI rifles/AICS. That is what the spigot lock is for, if you don't have one, you can upgrade, and take the "slop" out with that.

It should turn with a bit of tension. Have you tried turning both ways? If it doesn't move without a TON of resistance, I would contact Kasey, as it sounds like something may be wrong.
Thanks for any and all input.

Answers above in bold. Certainly not an Atlas expert, but I'm pretty sure I knew the answers to those questions.

Re: Atlas bipod for the AICS question

Tom Myers,

1. Does your spigot have a round knurled knob like feature on the end opposite of the section you stick into the AICS?

2.See above.

3.Does your Atlas have a arrow on the side of the base where there is other engraving? If so, are you turning the knob that direction to tighten or loosen it?

Re: Atlas bipod for the AICS question

Kasey,

The knob is just to set the pre-load tension. Right? If so that seems to be working just fine and loosened up a little after I worked it back and forth a few times. No problems now.

But, the male spigot will not lock in. When inserted into the stock, the release button on the stock will not come back out all the way locking it into the groove on the spigot. Probably a issue with my AICS. Do you know of a fix for this?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Atlas bipod for the AICS question

Tom,

Glad you got the Tension knob to turn, sometimes we forget to break them looses after assembly.

Spigot, again, does it have a knob on the end?

Re: Atlas bipod for the AICS question

No, no knob on the spigot.

I thought maybe it was a simple thing like loosening the set screws on the side and moving the spigot out just a hair for the stock to catch it. But I discovered that you have it through bolted from the top with a through hole in the spigot rod.

Mine just seems to be a big short. Probably a stock issue.

Re: Atlas bipod for the AICS question

ok, yes there are tolerance issues that we addressed with the V2 Spigot which has been shipping for some time now.

Options,

1. 24.95 will get you the V2 Spigot from us, this will adjust to any AICS and tighten up to it reducing the play found in both areas you describe.

2. You can remove some material (steel) from the flat face of the notch (on the male portion of the spigot) trial and error style till it locks in place. Or you can send it back, we'll remove same material BUT we will remove enough to GUARANTEE it will snap into the stock but will probably have some play there as well. We'll do this at no charge.

I suggest buying the V2 as it is a better solution and adds value to the system.

I'm having the same issue that Tom had, and mine has the round knurled knob on the end opposite of the section I stick into the AICS. It looks just like this one:

The spigot will not stay locked into my AICS.

ETA: Nevermind. The tension knob.. duh... I got it
