Baretta taking 45 million investment/ 300 jobs from MD to Tenn.

If they wanted to make a difference and help us out any, they would have done this when the state was trying to run us out of the hearings in Annapolis not waited till they got an underhand deal and sold us out. It's all a show. Who it hurts the most, and our politicians don't care either, are the employees they put out of work. They are mostly from the two lowest income counties in the state.

With all due respect the company did not, effectively, put the employees out of work. Local, regional, state and federal politicians enacting laws/regs did that with support of the local populace. The company was working within the given set of operational parameters it found itself having to deal with. The people voting in the politicians got exactly what they, as a majority voted into power.

The company is, in fact, doing its employees a favor by finding a more supportive environment. I imagine all the valued employees would be welcome to have a job in the new location and the employees are choosing to not relocate. That does not make it the employers fault.

I would much rather see a company relocate to a more favorable operating environment and keep their doors open rather than going out of business and the jobs go over seas.

Ultimately the locals got exactly what they, as a majority, wanted. The rest should either fight to correct those elected or move on. Its not personal.....

Considering you are not of the local populace and I am, I take your thoughts with a grain of salt. This move is a show for those that are not Maryland residents. They stayed here as long as they did because they got a deal under the table by way of a tweak in the law that makes nothing they manufacture a banned firearm in this state. Everything they sell can still be owned by us, it's just harder for the residents of this state. Them moving doesn't change that. The laws were not the desires of the people, they were the product of a map that was redrawn to make this the most gerrymandered state in the union. Gun control is not what made this company leave, it's only a PR guise. The taxes are what made them go. As I said, they stayed long enough to make sure they could keep selling their shit here and then they flew the coop. Being from California I would have thought you would know what it's like having socialists run amok in your state, but I guess maybe you've lived with it too long now and have grown acustomed to it. You keep fixing California, those of us living here will continue to try and fix Maryland.

Baretta is looking toward the future, and does not trust the Maryland government. The laws could change in Maryland quickly, and it takes time to find a new location, install the equipment, train employees, etc. Too bad for the current employees, but I think Baretta is being smart and is planning correctly.

Haha that actually made me laugh a little. I face the fact that I live in a F'd up state every damn day. Please tell me how someone who was born here by parents of the same mindset and has only been able to vote for 10 years ( i.e. 2 governors) is at fault? I love Texas, but there seem to be a few of you that don't think this can or will happen to you guys. What's going to happen when all these "new American" Hispanics crossing the border are voting in your state?

Texas will be just like California within 10 years. Just ignore that Guy, he seems to come from poor "breading" himself. You can change your state, it's not too late.

Your still living there

I'm sure Beretta's choice of locations was salted with some very healthy financial incentives, too. You can be sure they got a sweetheart lease on the land, and the state of Tennessee is famous for attracting big manufacturers with large tax breaks.

But it is fair certain the State of Tennessee will never turn on them. I've seen surveys of the "most gun friendly" states that put Tennessee WAY down the list, and I've never seen it in the top 10, but whoever did those surveys didn't have a clue what to look for.

They might not be too inventive but the Tennessee legislators are never slow about adopting any pro-gun legislation any other state dreams up. Like "Shall Issue" and a "Castle Doctrine" (no retreat required), in the home, your car, and your place of business. And the victim is immunized against civil repercussions from the attacker (or his survivors). The state constitution spells out firearms ownership as an individual right in plain English. Gun registration is prohibited by law and all state agency employees are forbidden from assisting the Feds in any registration efforts. Hunting also is constitutionally protected, and deliberately spooking game animals is criminalized (even if you use a UAV).

They tried to make CCW legal for anyone not otherwise prohibited, but the bill only got through one house of the legislature. Eight states have passed a Firearms Freedom Act, and Tennessee is only one of them east of the Mississippi. At the moment, the FFA is window dressing to the 2A debate, but eventually I believe these states will use it to establish standing with SCOTUS to test the limits of the 10th Amendment. But that can only happen when the court is more suitably staffed.

I don't know if anyone at Beretta knows this, and if they did I'm not sure how they could turn it to their advantage, but the place where they're building this factory is no more than 10 miles from the birthplace of Jonathan Browning, father to JMB (all face Ogden and genuflect). If ittuz me, I'd figure some way to work that fact into an ad campaign. That or hare-lip the Pope trying.

Like Marky Mark said in that silly sniper movie, "Welcome to Tennessee. Patron state of shootin' stuff."

Tennessee not a gun friendly state? Are you kidding? We are one of the most firearms friendly states in the Union! We have some of the best Ranges, one of the first to offer CC handgun permits. Check out the amount of $$$$ spent on hunting in TN, we are in the top 3 every year. You can't find a small-and I mean small- town in TN that doesn't have a gun store. If MD was so great-why would they move, taxes? I think that is a simple minded answer. Is savagesix saying, MD wouldn't have offered up an Identical tax deal to keep them? And is he saying, even though the state is so far left it hurts, Berretta really likes it there? I was under the impression the majority of the people in MD elected the legislators/governor in the state, if this is the case, the majority of the people are left wing-anti Constitutionalists. If they are not elected by the majority of the people of MD(registered voters), I stand corrected. We in Tennessee are happy to have Berretta-they won't be located to far from Barrett or the Nissan plant. So far as Berretta making "crap", wow, I've never really heard that one, SAKO, Tikka, Berrreta (all same corp) seem to make some pretty good stuff, at least in my experience. For those that have never been in the South, come on down to Tennessee, go shooting/hunting/fishing etc., you'll enjoy what the outdoors is all about. For those that have never been here, and want to make insane comments regarding our state, stay home!

When talking about Beretta's products I didn't mean what they make is shit, I just used it in a general sense. Not trying to knock their firearms. I'm definitely not saying that Maryland is great and Beretta loved it here either. Our state is great, the political and social environment is not. That's neither here nor there as far as this conversation is concerned. What I'm simply trying to say is that Beretta talked a big talk before this thing came to fruition in the state Senate and then when we all had a chance to speak up at the hearings they petty well shit the bed. If they truly wanted to throw their weight around and potentially make a difference they could have gone about it a little more effectively. At the end of the day, firearms are good business and Maryland is not a business friendly state, guns or otherwise. I don't fault them for leaving, I fault them for trying to put a spin out there that it's solely based on moral objection to the gun control going on here. It still will not make much of a difference here with most voters or with any law makers. Popular opinion didn't start this gun control craze here either, a voter base that prefers free shit and hates success of others just makes it impossible to win an election around here. It doesn't affect those people so they don't bother to care as long as the checks and phones keep coming and it's just business as usual for the democrats.

I case you have not notice I think Yankees cause all of this

It is now obvious this site has more than one registered PSYCHOPATH !

Someone is living in an angry, angry past ...

Since both are the product of your state's political climate, it ultimately makes no difference which of the two made Beretta leave. You get what you get.

I understand that, that's not my point. My problem with Beretta is not that they are leaving. They deserve to do business in a better area. I don't like the fact that they spin this as if it were a direct result from the recent law changes in the state and an objection to how the state treats it's citizens. They could have done more to help the cause when they had the chance. It is what it is, I just don't want to see people believe that they left in protest to how the state treats it's citizens rights. That's my only point.

I understand what you are saying but look at it some other way. The press is spinning the shit out of this move as if it is the result of MD's new gun control laws. If this gives some state legislator sitting on the fence a push in our favor, mission accomplished.

That's true and also how we hope it is viewed. Unfortunately when a senator is quoted as saying "If I can vote for SB281 with Beretta in my district, anyone can.", that doesn't lead me to have much faith. Hopefully the campaigns against the architects of this monstrosity pay off.

Every state has bastions of the FSA retards....
In Tennessee, it's Memphis. At every Wednesday night prayer meeting, the penitent pray that the New Madrid fault will move (again) in the middle of the night, change the course of the Mississippi river (again), and they'll awake in the morning to find that Memphis is now part of Arkansas.

Don't you dare try to push Memphis off on us!

Connecticut's anti-capitalist governor Dannel Malloy provoked Ovation Guitars to close their factory there, probably to re-open in Indonesia. Sikorsky already moved their R&D division out of the state to get away from his Malloy's pals, the mobbed-up unions. Sounds like they might be in the mood to move their manufacturing facilities elsewhere, too, as soon as they can depreciate out the current one.

Hard to believe they haven't pissed Colt off enough to move lock, stock and both barrels to some place south of the Mason and Dixon line.

Memphis TN, is not, NOT, representative of Tennessee. In fact Memphis has "home rule", a special type of "governing" established by the State of TN a long time ago. If Memphis were to be taken out of the equation, Tennessee would have a drastic reduction in crime, illegitimate birth, welfare rates, drug use, etc. Nonetheless, we're stuck with Memphis, with that said, the rest of the state, the other 95% is Great. Just as you'll find in most families, there is always the 5% that "you don't talk about", nor invite to reunions!
We're also proud of our new VW plant in Chattanooga, when the vote came up to Unionize or not, the smart folks in Tennessee said, "NO". We did not want all the "good" things the UAW has been able to do for Detroit, to be done to us! I'll add once again, if you like the shooting sports, hunting, fishing, hiking, boating etc., take a trip to our state, you'll be made to feel welcome, and you'll have a great time.

Strong suspicion Berettas strong 2A stance is the reason for the latest talk about changing the mil issued sidearm. The powers that be have no problem making/carrying out threats to those that dont support their agenda - tax payer/worker be damned.
