Bergara Rifles Pictures Thread *include specifics*

20190829_125026.jpg

Relatively standard .308 with a 20moa base and a Leupold XV 3i LRP and a YHM can. Nice rifle, made a 500yd shot squatting with it.

The stamp for my can was approved so now my hmr has my rugged surge on it. Also upgraded to a trigger tech special.
This pic was the first time shooting this rifle beyond 200 yards (or any rifle for that matter), it did fantastic all the way to 960 that morning.

following, looking hard at the Bergara B14 HMR. Nice to see some pics of setups.

I really like that. Did you use the sponge method?
Yep sprayed the whole thing black with the good flat paint and primer then rustolem Camo od then the fde. Then I used the od at about 15 inches to blend to my liking. Then a flat clear.

This is my first post, I've spent hours reading from here and other sites, and learned a ton.

Last November someone on this thread asked about where to buy: I bought my Bergara HMR Wilderness 6.5 Creedmoor, 24" Barrel, Gray Cerakote Finish - Bergara B14S382, on a whim during the Kung Flu issues from TSS Warehouse for $949.24 - shipped to California FFL. Bought on Apr 14, finally got it on May 31...my first scoped rifle. TSS was great - the shipping was delayed but they still shipped earlier than expected. Since it was on a whim, I looked for good deals and this seemed to be pretty good. Due to the trouble of getting it, I cobbled parts together by spec hoping they'd go ok with the rifle when I finally got it...and I made a few mistakes. I had all the parts by the time I got the rifle.

Also last November there was a discussion about price vs features for HMR vs HMR Pro. Since it was on a whim, I went with the Wilderness - I was going with the HMR at first, but the Wilderness seemed a nice upgrade - like Cerakote & included muzzle brake. So feature-wise it's in between the HMR and the Pro. My list, optimized for price but also buy once, cry once (and thanks to all the folks here, I've really learned a ton and that's ongoing):

Bergara HMR Wilderness 6.5 Creedmoor, 24" Barrel, Gray Cerakote Finish - Bergara B14S382 (TSS Warehouse)
Leupold VX-3i LRP 6.5-20x50mm FFP scope with Impact-60 reticle (Tombstone Tactical)
Leupold Alumina 50mm and Standard EP Flip Back Lens Cover Kit (Amazon)
Talley Short Action Remington 700 20 MOA Picatinny Base (Amazon)
Fidragon Rings (30MM 65.41mm Height...a mistake) (Amazon)
CVLIFE 6-9 Inches Tactical Rifle Bipod (cheap but had to JB-Weld the rubber cushions back on) (Amazon)
Raiseek Rifle Sling Buffalo Hide Leather Sling (Amazon)

I started the recommended barrel break-in while trying to zero my scope. I bought a green laser boresight (another mistake) before figuring out that it'd be better to just boresight by eye down the bore...which I did at home while dialing in the 20 MOA cant. After the home boresight, I did another at my friends private range, and re-adjusted 6" down. I should've left it alone, I was spot on at home. The recommended break-in is cleaning after each of the first 5 shots. I got lucky and used the "California Freedom 2.0 hours" to buy a random good-priced ammo that seemed decent - Remington R65CR2 140gr BTHP. Not what I had planned (Hornady 143gr ELD-X), but what I could get for cheap online near my first preference. This is the result of my first 5 shots, plus 3 more afterward - nothing to be too proud of, but I'd never shot a scoped rifle in my life before, so hopefully things will get better from here:

Thanks - why do you say AR-15, the item description says "any rifle"? The ones I got are too high - but otherwise what's the diff other than $100 more? Also, the ones you pointed to are low, I don't think they'd fit my 50mm scope on my base...what am I missing?

They are high and slanted, to get a scope on an ar-15 high enough to still grab the charging handle with your fingers. They are also cheap and screw up your cheek weld. After you buy the other ones as so as you pull them out of the box you’ll know why they cost so much.

Also change your ammo. Prime ammo or federal gold metal match 130gr Berger.

Rings/Mounts are like insurance. You normally don't see any real tangible increase in performance from using high-end expensive ones (unless your current rings have something wrong with them) but in the event that your rifle is dropped, or jarred you'll see the immediate downsides of cheap rings because the scope will most likely be shifted off of your zero.

If you think the low's will be too low, go with a medium set.

Lows will work fine. My mediums have my 56mm nxs with still some room to go.

Thanks, JakeM & Bcamos. I took your advice and ordered the Seekins Precision rings. And I learned something...

While that ammo may work well and is definitely worth trying, Bergara’s reamer is based on the 140gr ELD-M.
It may work in his and it may not. Mine with the Hornady 140 eldm was just under and inch, where as the federal was half moa. I’ve used Hornady ammo in three different rifles and it’s never really impressed me Compared to other stuff in the same price range.

Thanks Tokay444 & JakeM. And sorry folks for the side-track here on the thread. I originally picked the Hornady 143gr ELD-X based on this Field & Stream review I read, covering several different cartridges. But that, like most everything I've done up to this point was just "book learning" and just one review. I want to try several more cartridges but it's still not that easy in California. I got my original ammo just for starters using ammoseek.com. The Remington 6.5CM rounds I found were $0.88/round before shipping - even during this period of crazy runs on ammo, so somewhat less than the Prime and Federal ammo mentioned. But eventually, when I want accuracy most, I didn't expect what I picked to bring it. I had less than 24 hrs to place the order to my doorstep. After that, the state again shut down personal online ammo orders. I didn't have my firearm at the time and hadn't started the (2nd!) background check and mandatory 10-day wait, since even starting that wasn't an option at the time. My 1st try failed because the store shutdown during the 10-day wait, and then closed permanently after the max 30-day window. I didn't get that gun, but started again and added this Bergara on a whim - got 2 firearms the next try, and it only took me 3 months total. So I jumped at the chance to buy 80 rounds of anything half-decent to start with that was actually deliverable. That's living in California. After I'm done with this stuff I'll try some other ammo and find something that works well...maybe Prime, Federal Gold Medal Match, or Hornady.

It’s ok dude I understand. I think you would be getting more out of your rifle with the good stuff. You don’t have to drop everything now because of some guy on the internet. Shoot what you got, then get the new rings and ammo and I think you’ll see better results.

You were first to speak up on my first post and had important info. I appreciate the education from y'all. I ordered the Seekins rings you recommended, I'll be installing them ASAP.

How's the new setup?

So I’ve made a few changes to my HMR over the past few weeks. Converted over to ARCA and ditched the Harris SBRM for an Atlas CAL.

I also tried out the Hornady 147gr ELD-M and my rifle definitely didn’t like it. So I tried out the 120gr ELD-M and got a pretty decent 5 round group. I may do some more testing with it to see how it performs. I’d prefer to shoot a heavier bullet but I guess I can’t pick and choose what the rifle wants haha.

How's the new setup?

I'll be trying it out and re-zeroing tomorrow. So far so good though...I used the medium rings and it's a much better fit than the ones I had before. Added a cant and ADI indicator as well. I'll post an updated pic after I zero.

Try the 140gr eld-m's. My 6.5cm HMR liked them

I had good luck with the 147gr as well .5" 3 round group (last 3 rounds for the day).

That rifle will 100% like the 140 eld or the berger 140 hybrid.... id take those over the 120 anyday, unless you're only shooting to 500 or so.

I just returned from the Bergara Academy in Montana. I highly recommend it to anyone. It was an amazing experience. Shooting out to 1440 yards is more fun than I even imagined it would be. Great instructors and a beautiful place.

Bergara HMR in 6.5 cm. Seekins 20 moa base, seekins rings, Tract Toric 4-20x50 and a Harris bipod. This is my first precision rifle and I’m loving it. Thinking about throwing it in a Krg or xlr chassis with a two stage trigger in it after hunting season this year?

I know it’s an old thread, but how do you like the SE? Have you compared it to any other higher end glass?

Yeah I have the Razor 3 now on the Bergara and sitting in an MDT chassis. The SE now rides on my 6.5CM. Ultimately the SE was great out to a mile w the 300 PRC but the Razor is just far better! That said the SE is amazing for the price!
