Best Coffee To Brew At Home?

Re: Best Coffee To Brew At Home?

I picked up an aero press today, enjoying my first cup of coffee from it now, all I can say is I'm impressed, I used the crappy folgers and its much better than the drip machine I have. I think tomorrow I'm going to try it with the espresso grounds that I have, see if it turns out better than the espresso machine.

Re: Best Coffee To Brew At Home?

I just got a care package from my cousins in Hawaii - they have a small plantation in (on?) Kona.

I need to find a place with a decent grinder - this little home thing sucks. I wonder if Starbucks still has the "Just Say Yes" policy and would grind it for me. Hmmm...

Donut - the key with grinding - even with a home - count to 11 fast and STOP.

Most people overgrind and end up with small bits of powder in the bottom of the pot -

11 seconds max!!!! you should JUST have small chunks in there..

That's the problem. I know about what grain-size I need for my different brewers, but the problem is, this ancient grinder I have is painfully inconsistent. Shaking it or not shaking doesn't seem to help. I can have one load produce half Turkish grind, and the other half suitable for the french press. LOL

Re: Best Coffee To Brew At Home?

I grew up on community dark roast from a electric drip pot. That is not necessarily GOOD cofee, but it's awesome for waking up in the AM.

Good coffee comes out of a french press. It is just wayyyyy too much work at 0400 to set up a press. Far easier to just hit the button.
Anyway, take your pick, it will all have so much more flavor than out of a drip pot. I like sumatra from starbucks and any kona I've never had straight Kona, just the blends. too pricey for me, I'd rather spend discretionary funds on good hooch.

Because one can get by on cheap coffee, but in exactly zero instances is Natty Light or Old Charter acceptable.
