A buddy of mine showed me a benchmade Infidel and I fell in love. I have another bechmade knife, but wondered about these OTF blades. I read good things on the DKW sandshark, and a few negs on the infidel. Youtube has a guy putting his DKW into a metal drum. Any feedback from you guys is always appreciated. this is a totally new area for me.

check out Protech knives. The springs internally were orginally intended for having an automatic knife for an underwater knife. They are very strong springs, the only down side is they do not have a safety and if you accidentally hit that button while its in your pocket your gonna have a nice little cut on your ass or leg. They are great knives and sharp as hell

Check out Zero Tolerance. Its the premium grade of Kershaw. They have an auto that I have carried on duty for the past year. Has a safety to prevent opening. Great knife.

Thanks Guys. Well DKW is definitely out. They are for the collectors now and im not a collector. Im really feeling the benchmade. i have read some terribe reviews on it, but it sure looks and feels great. The microtech is nice looking also and has a nice tungsten window breaker underneath, but its the most $$. This is going to be a present for a first time daddy. I sw the protechs, but did not care for the short blade to make it CA legal.

I hate to belive everythin that i see on you tube, is the benchmade all looks like some of the reviews claim.

MOD Harkins Tritons are a good knife for an OTF. Harder to come by nowadays, but I think I remember reading that they were on sale via the Blackhawk website with the usual restrictions.

Benchmade Infadel with black blade gets my vote.
You will never regret haveing such a great knife. Make sure you can have one in your state before you get yourself into a fix.

I have the Infidel and a Microtech... The Microtech is hands down the better than the 2. Microtech is the nicest best made knife I have ever owned and thats why some of them cost 2k. But on a side note, if you are in Baghdad and want an Infidel for 279 bucks I can point you in the right directions. That is 50 bucks cheaper than anywhere I have seen.

Re: Best OTF auto knife benchmade, microtech , DKW

Can't speak for the other brands but I have carried the same benchmade for
13 years. I use it way more than the average person, opening and cutting up huge amounts of boxes, like another tool in the shop, digging dandelions in
the yard when I spot them, just all around abuse. It just never hick ups. It's a
inertia open and close and still works like new.

Re: Best OTF auto knife benchmade, microtech , DKW

The infidel is ok. I dont think its the quality that it could be. the opening action is very slow and has a mushy feel to it. I would go microtech. I own a few and they have never let me down. They will also sharpen your blade for free if you send it in to them.

Re: Best OTF auto knife benchmade, microtech , DKW

Compare a Microtech and an Infidel first hand, you will buy a Microtech guaranteed.

The price difference is not even that much.

I had a Scarab DE for a while, fantastic knife.

Re: Best OTF auto knife benchmade, microtech , DKW

The Infidel came in today. To my surprise i got the BLK version. Fine by me eventhough I ordered the plain one.

If the microtech beats this hands down, then it really must be one hell of a knife becuase i love this benchmade. Its not serrated, but the finish is 1st class and the action is smooth and crisp.

Re: Best OTF auto knife benchmade, microtech , DKW

i have had both the "clips" on the benchmade are superior too the microtech. I don't even want to think about how many microtechs I have lost.

Great looking knife!

I've had my old Benchmade for some years now and it's still a workhorse ... I EDC it along with my Glock 29.

Re: Best OTF auto knife benchmade, microtech , DKW

I have a Benchmade Infidel and a Microtech HALO III. The HALO III is most definitely the superior OTF. The only problem is the lack of any kind of clip for carrying.

I have had a couple of misfires with the Infidel, never with the HALO.

Microtech's are amazing as far as finish is concerned. However I am satisfied with the Infidel.

Be very careful if you rely on an OTF for defense.

My next auto will be a Gerber 06. I have my OTF's and the fun is done. Unless of course Microtech makes a D/A OTF with the HALO III blade.

Re: Best OTF auto knife benchmade, microtech , DKW

I have a benchmade infidel and have played with a friends microtech. The microtechs are nice, but i dont thinke most of them have as long of a blade as the infidel. The infidels blade is pretty long and super pointy, its a real weapon made for one thing... Like i said i have played with both and i still went out and bought the infidel, fit and finish isnt quite as detailed as the microtech but its very rugged and in your hand feals like a solid knife, made out of AL and pretty quality, As long as you can get one for under 400 bux, you should be happy with your purchase. No misfires with mine, but i dont EDC it.
