Isn't it great, we went form having nothing but locals trying to make the best of things to having two prs matches. Me and a buddy hosted one up in North East Ohio, but I'm looking forward to having someone else come up and go through all the headaches of setting it up.

Just ordered one of these from Josh, the problem I'm having now is if I want to jump on the 6mm bandwagon or stick with what I know the 6.5x47.One other thing I want to mention is I have dealt with two other smiths and neither one answers questions as fast as this fella and to me that speaks volumes about a person.

I have all 3 "generations" of BIghorn actions just like a few other folks on here. I have barreled them as low as SN 0007, I own SN 0015, I recently did a pair of barrels for SN0036 and pretty much everything in between. My first one was SN0153; it has tens of thousands of rounds on it documented.

The "accuracy potential" for the TL3 might be argued to be theoretically better than the push-feed actions based on the mechanical ejector not putting any eccentric load on the back of the case head.

How does this manifest on target? Until a BR Hall of Fame shooter can prove to me that it makes a difference I have a hard time saying that it matters functionally. I've put together more TL-2 based rifles that consistently shoot in the .1's and .2's than I remember.

The TL3 functionality provides some major improvements over the TL/TL2 pattern actions. Handling short and fat cases off feed rails, improved function on little tiny cases like 221 Fireball based cartridges, 6PPC and 6BR based cartridges and the 300BLK in a bolt gun... all are now much more reliable. The mechanical ejection gives positive ejection for any sized case under any conditions. The harder you hit the bolt stop the harder it throws the brass.

Getting worked up about potential accuracy in a TL/TL2 vs. TL3 is not something I would be in a hurry to do.
Does bighorn offer a PPC bolt face for the 3?

The Bighorn TL3 receiver comes uncoated but the bolt comes already NP3 coated. I had PVA DLC coat my TL3 receiver. The combination of a DLC coated receiver and NP3 bolt will be slick as snot.

Coating the barrel is up to you. Its a consumable. If your going through barrels in 12-18 months or less why spend the money on coating it when your just going to replace it. Now if its going to be a hunting gun or low round count/safe queen rifle then maybe coating the barrel makes sense.

TL3's are available, most are just waiting on coating work like DLC or gunsmiths to get barreled actions put together. Call Josh at Patriot Valley Arms if your looking for a TL3 action.

As of right now they are back ordered Thur February thru PVA so I would suggest if you want one better pay up and get inline.I have a good ideal people are going to love them and if Josh puts it together it's going to shoot better than the cowboy running it.

Just scroll up six posts above yours to see what appears to be a 1/2 MOA or better group on steel at 600 yards.

And remember that the action only plays a small part in making small groups. World records have been set using stock Savage and other actions.

I realize they are technically available since a few guys have them, but in reality I've been waiting months for mine. I'm waiting on just the action, putting the barrel on myself. But I guess Bighorn had some plating issues, so I have no idea when they will actually show up. I understand that issues creep up and wait times stretch, but when the "week or two more" turn to months, it can get a little frustrating. I know it will be a fantastic action and I hope they start showing up in numbers soon.

I contacted PVA in August, when Josh posted that he had a couple left-handed actions that were not spoken for. There was a problem with his website, but he assured me I was on his list. Order on website, and payment, were processed in October. Haven't heard a peep since. Not really worried about it, since I have other guns to shoot, but pictures in this thread are getting me excited/impatient.

I know, it's tough because I'm trying to decide on an action for my build but haven't been able to see a TL3 in person. My smith has Surgeon 591's sitting around ready for a build but I'm just not sure if it's worth the wait for the TL3, not knowing what it's like or when it would arrive.

The SR3's can be ordered now direct
http://patriotvalleyarms.com/bighorn-sr3-hunting-action/

The snapshot says "coming soon" but that's just because I haven't gotten a chance to upload new photos. I have a prototype here that has just returned from DLC coating and it's a super slick action.

I don't believe that Bighorn has a storefront. They're a full time, full go machine shop. They make a lot of aerospace parts. They're in the rifle action business because the folks involved with the company are precision gun guys. You can try but my suspicion is that they're not looking to have walk-in visitors.

That is the projected ship date to dealers. The pre-order you placed was delivered first thing at SHOT show when they allowed dealers to hand in orders on them.

They are first come first served on the orders placed. I got my order in at the very beginning of the order list as I told folks I would.

Orders ppaced thru Bighorn now will be after anything already in line.

Picked up my new DLC TL3 barreled action from Josh yesterday and got out to shoot it today. Temps were right at 30F with a 15mph wind. Snowing sideways for those 130TMK groups then it cleared up and got sunny for the OCW test. Still was freezing and windy. Looks like high 40's Wednesday so I will get back out then.

Bighorn TL3
DLC receiver, NP3 bolt
26" Bartlein M24 in 6.5x47L
XLR Evolution folding chassis, Tactical buttstock
Jewel HVR Trigger
Rugged Suppressors 3 Port QD brake for Surge 7.62
Vortex Razor GenII 4.5-27x56 EBR-2C MRAD

The rings I have are too low so I ordered new 1.26" Seekins PMR rings. Temporarily using a WAY TOO HIGH ADM AD-Recon 34MM 20MOA mount just to test the gun. New rings will be here Wednesday. With the cheek rest at its highest position I still cant see down the scope with this mount. Lol, it worked just to test the gun out today.

The DLC/NP3 combo is awesome! Feeding is so slick and smooth, very happy with the DLC/NP3 combo.

I grabbed a box of Sierra 130 TMK's off the shelf to load up just to get a rough zero on the gun and get some rounds through the gun before starting load development with the 130 ELD-M's. I bought a few boxes of the 130 TMK's to test when they first came out and they are just collecting dust so I figured I would use them up. I loaded 20rds with 41.3g H4350, CCI 450, virgin Lapua brass and seated them .02" off the lands. I ran the cases through my expander to give exactly .002" neck tension. Tension was measuring .004-.005 before doing that. I shot 5 shots to get a rough zero then shot 3 groups of 5 to function test the rifle. For not doing any load development and it being the first 20rd down the barrel they shot really well.

6jTLDX2.jpg

I also loaded up an OCW test with the 130 ELD-M, H4350 and CCI 450 seated 0.01" off the lands. The 130 ELD-M's shot really good with amazing accuracy and SD's. Everything was shot over the Magnetospeed V3. The primers are just barely starting to get flat at 41.8g but are still pretty darn round. You can just see them starting to flatten. Will do a seating depth test with 40.8g next and also shoot a OCW with the Norma 130 Golden Targets.

I didnt bother cerakoting the barrel, its a waste of time and money. Barrels are consumables, gonna pull it and replace it in a year +/- depending on how much you shoot it. I could see if you built a safe queen or hunting rifle you dont plan to shoot often then it makes sense.

Oh this is a hunting build, so no worries on barrel life.

ICU - Your barrel is partway through process. Breech end is all cut
(Before anyone else asks, I probably won't remember off the top of my head, his was cut a couple days ago).
Sheldon's is close to being done too.
With all the problems that my DLC place has been giving me with lead times I have stopped taking "mail in" orders for DLC. I'm going to coat BIghorn action bodies and put them on the shelf for direct purchase.
I cannot handle getting all the work done, packages shipped and the additional hassles of a plating company that, while doing exceptionally consistent work, is exceptionally inconsistent in lead times and almost always late.

That's great news Josh, I'm in Disneyland with the fam and you just put an even bigger smile on my face. :)

I appreciate you dealing with all the logistics of getting this done. The final product will be worth it for sure.

I also am waiting on my Barreled action from pva. In the mean time does anyone have any idea how a tl3 will work in a manners mini chassis inlet for a 700 sa?

Hopefully it will fit that's what mine will be setting in.I know you will have to trim some of the stock due to the ejection port being more forward.

The ejection port and the bolt handle area will both need some work. Other than that should be good to go.

Xlr told me that the tang area would have to be opened up to fit the TL3 in my 700 chassis.

It fits the chassis just fine. The port will depend on if you ordered it specifically for a TL3 from Manners or not. I had a used T6A and had to file open the port about 1/2" or so.

That is great news jade. Did you have any feeding issues or was the dasher pretty much plug and play with the manners mini chassis?

Plug 'n play for me with standard AICS mags.

Edit to add: Watch your trigger though. I destroyed a Timney CE 2-stage on the chassis. Timney fixed it at no cost (pretty bitchin' of them!) but I had to take the Dremel to the trigger well.

Re: New Bighorn Arms TL3 Action

So, I heard from the man himself and my build is getting closer to being finished.. Just in case any of you guys were wondering why my build is taking so long because I have posted here alot, I've made quite a few changes along the way... Josh has been very patient with me on this project and a true professional.. I started talking to Josh initially about building off a Tikka and then it started turning into a whole other animal.. I then purchased a Mausingfield from Josh and ordered a Manners T2-A, which by the way took 6 to 7 months to arrive, then the TL3 came out and I was hooked... I had to have it so I sold the Mausingfield to pay for it.. So the last hold up was I decided I wanted a Bartlein instead of a Hawk Hill, not to mention the indecision between the 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5x47 Lapua and color decisions... So if any of you guys are pondering on Josh building you a rifle, don't think too long, the line just keeps getting longer. Most other smith's wouldn't have had that kind of patience and input, he's answered any question I had.. So that's why my rifle is taking so long guys, for those of you who were wondering... Thanks again Josh...

so does patriot valley do DLC coating for bighortn actions? Or they only do it for the actions they sell?

Correct. The hassles inherent to balancing vendors and customers that have a specific timeline is not something that I have been successful handling right now. I keep using my current supplier because the quality of the work product is so good; the lead time reliability is just not there.

So the solution for a DLC coated Bighorn TL3 through me will be to buy one of the ones off my shelf when they're in stock. Otherwise I just can't handle it right now. Too many phone calls that go approximately like this:
"Is the DLC back ?"
"No, it's X weeks out"
<some range of politeness or explitives>

I was struggling with this same decision. Definitely let us know how the two compare when you get a chance.

Will do. Waiting on the reamer so the TL3 can be built. I've been using the Mausingfield for about a year now. I had a chance to play with the TL3 at Shot Show and they are very similar. Basically the same style mechanical ejector, only difference is the extractors. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Anyone know who has these in stock?

Also, do they make a right hand bolt, left hand port?
