Boulder County of fire.

Reality trumps feeling every time.
The spotted owl might lose his habitat due to development, but he will certainly die due to forest fires.
Leftys are parasitic hypocrites.

'Forest management' aka removing undergrowth, overgrowth or fuel, instead of hugging it would save billions of dollars in property loss and loss of life. But the Left could never add 2 + 2.

If there is a tree in the fire area, it's because someone planted it in their yard. Undergrowth is not the issue today. FYI there are some damn fine people that live in those areas.

I’m guessing it’s probably not. Damn…..

Not talking about today. Whats burning in Colo. today is former buffalo prairie. I was referring to California tree huggers and the ones that have taken over Austin with their politics that don't allow controlled burns and making tree/brush clearing a crime. They take their laws, politics and stupidity with them everywhere they go.

Roger that...
It's still Buffalo grass Prarie, prairies burn...by design as you prolly know.
You are correct, tree thining saves lives. 👍

So many of those houses are built so close to each other that I am amazed it doesn't happen more often.
When you have winds that high when one goes, the one 10 feet away next to it goes too and on it burns.
As many fire trucks as they have working I wonder how their water is holding up?

One city so far is on a boil order for drinking water. I think it was Lafayette. Nothing yet in Broomfield. I am guessing it's related to the fire truck consumption, but I don't know for sure.

I do believe they had a pump station that caught fire. If pressure is lost in the system there is an opportunity for contamination to enter the drinking water. I'm sure some poor d level operators are gonna be taking about 1000 water samples today.

I'm hopeful the water distribution system wasn't damaged. Between the 2 water treatment plants they have im pretty sure they can make over 80 million gallons a day. Quantity probably wasn't an issue.

tough watching the AM news.

Will be mid day at least I am guessing before they have much an update. Several days before we start learning of all the rest of the horrors

I fear for those not able to run yesterday.

6,200 acres. No update on homes lost.

Video showing homes burning while the staff at Avista was evacuating patients.

That hits close.

Hospital is fine as of current reports. Big parking lot around it was a good barrier.

Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle will hold a presser this morning at 10 a.m. MST.

My house in Lafayette is 5 mi NE of the evac zone, so we are OK, but seeing all the devastation yesterday was hard.

Starbuck, glad you and yours are safe.

Having seen friends lose everythign to a fire more than once, I can understand how hard it was watching.
Had friends lose a family cabin from the late 40s in the East Troublesome fire.

Is Boulder itself in flames?

That's what I want to see.
I was in the fire that hit Left Hand Canyon and Jamestown back in the day. Thought it might get to Boulder at that time. Trust me, hear me: even if they are idiots and assholes you don’t want this for anyone.

Plus they would just rebuild it with more tax dollars and make it some kind of liberal shrine.

That area isn't in a forest. Short grass prairie. Densely packed housing and high winds don't mix well with sparks.
Be glad it isn’t forest. Once the fires get up in the pine trees and start climbing the side of a mountain in those Chinook winds, it’s gone.

@Doc68 why act surprised?

Haven't you seen widespread animosity here towards the people who vote for politicians whose aim is to utterly destroy the United States so that it can be remade into some socialist/communist/totalitarian nightmare?

There are citizens in this country who are actively working to destroy the Constitution or to drive over it as if it didn't matter.

I do recall a line in an oath I have taken several times: "to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic".

What do you think "defend" will ultimately mean? There's another thread in which a shit ton of people are in favor of a "National Divorce". How do you think that will ultimately go down?

Didn't mean to hit the shocked face. Was aiming for the laughing face.

I have no time for these people and the BS they bring everywhere either. These people are the main reason why we are in this shitfest right now here in the United States.

ETA: I remember that oath I've taken many times myself. However these days many don't take that oath seriously. As we can see from how many refused the fucking shots that the military made mandatory. It's fucking sickening.

Doc

So if the cause wasn't downed power lines, what was it?

They kept showing that imagine of a telecommunications splice box on the TV. There is a pretty big open space there that sees a lot of hiking and biking traffic. I suspect they'll declare it as caused by humans, but I doubt it will go much further than that.

So if the cause wasn't downed power lines, what was it?

The lines don't have to go down to start a fire. The wind blowing two lines together for just a second is all it takes to catch dry grass on fire. Probably won't ever know what happened but you can bet your ass the lawyers will be chasing anyone with money.

The people I know managed to escape total devastation. I'd post pics but they were sent to me and he's member so I'll let him describe the damage in his neck of the woods. Just very happy to get some good news. Albeit at the expense of other's who received bad news. Those I'll pray for.

OK, I'm thinking arson....

According to BOCO Sheriff Pelle today:

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation, but Pelle said that a search warrant has been activated on a property, but that he couldn’t disclose the location until there was more information available.

Pelle said authorities haven’t located any downed power lines. He said they had found downed telecommunications lines, which may have accounted for the report of power lines being down, but would not have caused the fire.
