Do we have enough Bowhunters here for a bowhunting thread?
I shoot a 2019 PSE Drive 3B
Goldtip extreme hunters
slick trick 100g broadheads
QAD rest
HHA optimizer sight
Getting pumped for this season, but opening day isn't for a month and a half yet(in Ohio)
whats everyone shooting, and what are you hunting for this year?
(Picture thread would be cool too)

We most definitely do. I'm a novice, but enjoy the thrill. Sort of reminds me of the dark ages of learning to hunt with a rifle. There's just so much you don't know until you make those mistakes and learn from them.

Mathews Vertix in left hand (instead of right) because I like to make shit more complicated than it needs to be
QAD rest and sight - really thinking about that garmin sight, but to early to make a change
Easton arrows, think they're 340s
Rage Hypodermic Trypans
Pull is 62lbs
TRU Ball Goat release, using the standard trigger instead of the back pressure method

Bow hunting brought the adrenaline rush back that I lost a few years ago hunting critters here in Texas. Freaking love it.

I've seen a few mentions of archery in several different threads, thought this might be cool to do. How you like those rages? I haven't been able to go to a mechanical over a fixed blade, i know people kill a lot of deer with them.

Bowtech Sentinel FLX
Easton A/C/C Superlite
Rage Hypodermic NC

Mission Sub-1 XR
247gr Mission Bolts
Rage Hypodermic NC

TX archery hog hunt second week of September then heading to Pike County MO for archery whitetail and turkey.

MO archery season starts September 15. Have photos of a couple “nice” deer this year, but no bruisers.

Put out another trail cam Monday to see what’s happening on a different portion of the property I hunt.

5 deer fell to the crossbow last year. I didn’t take out the Bowtech except to practice. Thinking about a long bow project with either Osage or hickory staves I have on hand. A buddy of mine will do the flint arrowheads for me if I decide to go that route.

Bow Tech RPM 360
ACC 3-60
Rage 2 blade, in states that allow them. Slick Trick in the others.
Winn freeflight glove with a old Carter head.
Whitetail and Elk for the most part.
Mainly Elk these days.

I haven't drawn blood yet.

Went down to Hamilton TX to hunt a property several different times last year. Threw down a pop-up blind, loaded up a 600lb feeder, and threw a camera on it. Ended up seeing lots and lots of deer and pigs.

Told myself at the beginning of the season that I'm better off whacking a doe, just to get first blood out of the way. Stubborn me held out for a buck. When I went to full draw, I nailed the inside of the pop-up blind, and well, he be gone! I learn the hardway LOL.

Picked up a Barronett Big Cat which should give me enough space to stand and draw without wiggling the blind. That's the plan until I learn something else wasn't just right. 2 years running and I'm still behind the curve with bow.

Headed out in a couple weeks to setup feeders, kill some hogs and figure this bow thing out.

Still shooting my first bow - Mathews Drenalin. Victory RIP arrows. Slick tricks, magnus and rages. Can't find any pics right now, but I still like the old bow. It draws so smooth, I haven't found a bow that I like to shoot more yet. Getting pretty excited to start the season again this year, have been shooting at 80 yards lately to practice.

Some of the best times I've had shooting were long range zombie targets  We set him up at 100 yards. It wasn't that hard with the compounds, but it was a blast trying to hit it with the longbows.

Mathews Creed 60lbs
Easton FMJ arrows with Rage Trypans
Drop away rest
Montana Black Gold sight

Mostly hunt whitetail in IL, but been to CO a couple times to try for elk with no success.

October 1st whitetail season opens here. Looking forward to it.

Haven't been out with my Mathews for awhile now. I got the itch to "upgrade" with a Z7....

Best part about being a novice is when you Robin Hood the first time, then realize how much you need to spend AGAIN. LOL

Fuckin A man! I stick with the Vegas 3 spot targets. Damn lighted nocks are too expensive to hit...when I did the target set up, each arrow cost like 26-28 bucks. I had like 120-140 in a half dozen, but they were .001 with a large diameter for a line breaker. Now with Nockturnals in, my hunting arrows went from around $10-$15 to $20-$25 each :cautious:

Ordered a Mathews VXR after shooting a bow tech patriot since 05 I believe. Should be a fun year

Do you have it in hand yet? I'd like to hear what you think about it. I've heard good things.

2015 Mathews NoCam
Easton FMJ
Exodus 100g broadheads
QAD drop away rest
Trophy ridge single pin sight

Shot was 23yards. Impossible to blood trail due to ankle deep water everywhere. Luckily my friend knows how to track these things in the marsh.
Received the bow as a wedding gift. This was my first hunt with it and also my first ever sika hunt and it was actually during a tropical storm! My greatest memory archery hunting so far. I normally only hunt whitetail in fair weather conditions lol

LMAO...right!! I swear shooting .300WM all day is almost cheaper LOL....

My first was with field points on aluminum shafts, then later on I did it with carbons. I was shaving off fletchings when using broad heads... I stopped trying repeated shots on the same target spot.....LOL

well im no bow hunter but i am a backyard slinger:).....my gear is older but solid....i also after seeing i need new strings and then viewing them online decided to make my own bow holding device to do my own bow work few seasons ago  ....i have tried deer hunting i have made a decent stand to hunt from right across the lake as well & i also have located shooter bucks BUT i just cant stay there long enough to be effective so its not really for me and why i just shoot targets in the back yard :) ...Good luck to everyone who bags a shooter with their bow this season as it sure does take the patience i dont have!

2012 RKT Hoyt
Trijicon Accupin site
QAD drop rest

This is the best thing I've gotten photos of so far this year. New camera put out on Monday might bring some new deer to my desktop. This deer still looks pretty young.

2020 PSE Carbon air Stealth Mach 1
Spot hogg grinder. Custom / 6 pin
330 Easton carbon Injexions
Iron will broadheads

Backup is a 2017 Hoyt Carbon Defiant. Setup same as above.

Will be in CO unit 76 here in a few weeks for elk. Limited draw unit. Been scouting the last 2 months and have 20 days planned for the hunt. Hoping for a 320+ bull. But will be hard to turn down a good 6x6 300 incher if its standing in front of me.

Nice thread idea I will dig out my stick and string tommorw and post some picks and specs.
I actually sold one of my bows to a forum member and traded one to another member last year.

Do you have it in hand yet? I'd like to hear what you think about it. I've heard good things.

Should be here soon. I test drove a 31" and immediately said I gotta have one. I've had newer bows than my bow tech but have sold them and always gone back to it. I think I've finally found my replacement and can confirm when I get it in. I ordered a month or so ago and they said it should be sometime august.

Good luck on that hunt, Jake.

Thanks man. Burned 10 in state preference points to get it. 8 guaranteed it but I don't think I would catch unit 61 for another 5-6 years with point creep the way its going. And never catch the NW corner. Ready to be back at 0 points so I can go hunt a few spots as first choice.

If your in for a 2021 hunt, shoot me PM and we'll continue that previous conversation.

yep go every year. Got a new Hoyt Axius and tuning my arrows as we speak (moving from easton fmjs to victory vap ss v1s). Got an elk hunt coming up - need more velocity, foc and up front weight than i use yearly for whitetail

Got a Mathews Vertex last year with HHA Rest and HHA Optimzer sight, which I love by the way. I was shooting an 2002 old Mathews Legacy previously. Its amazing what they have done in bow technology, however in 18 years they should be better!
My hunting buddy just got the new VXR. Shot both side by side, really can't tell much difference in the noise both are deadly quite, good back wall and speedy.

Bought my 31.5 VXR this year. By far the best setup i have ever owned.
Matthews VXR 31.5 OD Green love the color on this.
Matthews Ultra Rest
Spot Hogg Hogg It 2 pin adjustable sight
Gold Tip Hunter Pro 340 Arrows.
Bow is a lot more capable than i am as a shooter. Would highly recommend this bow to anyone looking. Well worth the price of admission! Pic is in the blind on a velvet mule deer hunt in Arizona. Beautiful state with some tremendous deer and elk.

Thought I may start some discussion on this thread about arrow weight. What are your thoughts of what is the better way to go strictly for whitetail penetration, low weight and fast or heaver weight and a little slower for more energy?
I am shooting Easton 5mm Full Metal Jackets 400's. 65 lbs out of a Matthews Vertix. So I am on the upper end of the weight scale. Both does I took last year were complete pass through with 100gr Trocar's. Very satisfied with the combination. I was shooting an all carbon shaft very light arrow with the same braodheads the years before last and didn't have quiet the performance as my current set up. The pro at the shop suggested the change and I have been happy with it.
I am no authority on this subject just sharing my experience. Certainly would like to hear your thoughts.

I'm in the heavy arrow high foc state it mind. I choose a light stiff shaft and get all my over all weight from foc. My total arrow weight is 725 grains with a 250 grain iron will and ethics inserts
