Waiting on a few parts and a stamp for my SBR build so I've started looking into scopes. I'd like a reticle that provides for fast target acquisition at low power along with holdover marks for longer distances, reasonably light weight and capped turrets. So far the options I've come up with that fit these criteria along with my budget are...

Weaver Tactical 1-5x24mm
Vortex PST Gen II 1-6x24mm
Steiner P4xi 1-4x24mm
Athlon Midas BTR 1-6x24mm
Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24mm
Burris MTAC 1-4x24mm

Primary use will be deer or hog hunting <200yds along with paper punching @ 100yds and steel out to 300yds. Any recommendations for or against any of these would be greatly appreciated.

I'll admit I'm somewhat of a vortex fanboy (have had very good luck with them so far) so those are my top 2 at this point. The pst gen II should have the superior glass, but the strike eagle has more magnification, a lower price point and what appears to me to be a better reticle for my purposes. I'll have to see if I can compare them side by side. The pst reticle seems like it would be better for distance, but the strike eagles reticle looks like it would allow for faster target acquisition. Of course since I haven't used either yet, I could be way off base.

Don't overlook the Steiner p4xi, it's a really nice optic compared to others in the same price range. The only complaint I have about mine is mushy turrets, but they are capped so it's not a huge deal.

I have an 8.3" 300blk SBR and I am in the same boat. I currently have RDS but would rather a LPV that can be used as a RDS. I would add the Burris XTRII 1-5 to the list. If you are only going to be shooting 300yards I think a 1-4 would be more than enough scope, but always having more is nice.

SuperSetCA has a good 1-6 review (link below) and XTRII 1-5 review on YouTube

I honestly would go with the Steiner P4Xi or Vortex PST GENII. I have not seen nor shot with a 1-6 GEN2, but have played with a 3-15 for a bit and imagine the 1-6 is just as good. I have shot with the P4Xi and really liked the simple reticle and daylight bright illumination.

Had a weaver tactical 1-5. Very nice glass but was a heavy pig and totally threw off my AR build. Would add weight to a hunting rig that you would most likely be carrying around for a while.

One vote for the Athlon Midas BTR 1-6x24mm. Few times have I been so impressed for the value per dollar. The glass really pops and the reticles are awesome.

Only one complaint though and that is I would have liked daylight bright illume, though it was visible indoors and a hour before sunset.
