I first saw this is a Midway sales flyer and they listed the velocity at 3000fps for .308 winchester on a 175 SMK. I went to their website, and saw the same thing.

If you look at a larger picture of the product on their website, the box says 2800fps. Is it me, or does it seem like Buffalo bore might be using a little misleading info to sell the product?

If they did figure out a way to get 3000fps from a standard .308 without barrel busting pressures, i'd be first in line to order up a box, but I think this is very unlikely.

Re: Buffalo Bore "Sniper" .308 ammo...3000fps???

I just took some of this ammo out to 500 yards with my factory savage. Once I did my part, I got a 3-4" 4 round group on the gong. It did take less holdover than my Hornady 168g match ammo.
I am reloading my own stuff now, but I will probably buy another box of this stuff, one because I liked it, and also to shoot it through a chrony. I think even the 2800fps on the box is reaching a bit. You'd think the cases would be showing some signs of pressure, especially with a COL of 2.75-2.79...

Hey boys, do not kill me now, but if I can read well, there is no place where they tell that their ammo is able to shoot at velocity 3000fps. They only put there ballistic tables for several velocities (what if someone has 40" barrel?

You are correct Ares, but at the same time, why would they even bother throwing up 3000 on the board to begin with? No way in hell you are gonna get 3k with a 175 grainer.

BUFFALO BORE CHRONY'D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put 5 rounds through my RCBS Chrony today...
Savage FCP-K, 24" barrel, 1:10 twist
65°F, 35% humidity, 3,000ft elevation
Chrony 10' from the muzzle:
1) 2758fps
2) 2700fps
3) 2709fps
4) 2740fps
5) 2720fps
That's an average velocity of about 2725fps - still pretty fast. I would say that one might get 2800 out of a 1:11-1:12 twist, 26-28" barrel. I plan to work up a load to this velocity. My gun seems to like it.
My group at 200 yards wasn't that great. Haven't measured it but it's probably around 2 inches. However, this ammo seems to be more accurate out at longer distances. I put three rounds on the gong at 500 meters and it was about a 3" group.

I get 3k fps all the time from my 308, 155 Scenars though, it is possible to get a 175 out of a 308 going 3k, but your gonna have to have a 30 inch tube, shallow gain twist rifling, and get this, modify your brass to hold almost 50 grains of RL15, one firing and the brass is toast, but it can be done.

LOL, or just switch to an 06 and do it without a hitch in a 26" barrel and RL22.
