Built a Range Cart for the Rifles and Stuff

I built another cart for the rifles....I built one about 7 years ago but it was too big and heavy, held 5 rifles.

I just finished this one today, holds three rifles, has a storage box on the bottom for ammo and rolls on pneumatic tires.

I have a total of $30 into the cart, using pieces of 3/4" BC plywood I already had in the shop.

I will try it out tomorrow at the range. Total of about 8 hours cutting and assembly. Will disassemble in a few months and paint it, gray, moss green or khaki....thanks to my wife for taking the pictures

Thanks for looking,

Looks good! It's similar to the carts the cowboy action shooters use to haul their gear.
I was thinking of building something like this out of steel without the storage box for 3 gun matches with a larger base to put my shooting bag on.
A couple of questions,do you think with longer barreled guns on the cart ( 22-26" long barrels) the barrels will get in your way when you're rolling the cart around?
When you're rolling the cart around and it's leaned back, do the muzzles of the rifles point at your head, and does this bother you or do you think this will be a safety issue at a match?

Yes, they do point at me, my first cart was the same, but since it was taller, it was not as pronounced. I built this cart smaller so it will fit in a particular spot in my garage.

I am always safety first, and a check each rifle five times, always, my OCD kicking in.

Taller rifles will not work on this cart. This cart was built around 16" barrel AR's.

I looked at the cowboy action shooter carts for a while and wanted something more dedicated for these rifles...

Below is a picture of the first one I built....

Wow. Both of the carts look awesome. Your axles look heavy duty, but are you running into any weight problems with the carts fully loaded? Seems to me that would be the stress point.

Weight is not an issue, on the first cart, I have the 1/2" all thread running through bronze bushings in pressed in the wood.

On the second cart the pneumatic tires run on 5/8" all thread, running through the aluminum brackets bolted to the back of the cart.

To answer one of the other replies, from the parking lot to the range is about 200 yards or more...so the cart comes in handy.

My 77 is in pieces, started the frame off about 5 years ago and still in progress.

I purchased it in 1995 with 62,000 original miles, drove it until I started a full dis-assembly down to the last nut and bolt...

It is a 1977 Sport, uncut rear wells and all of the standard 1977 features...

I will try to post some pictures soon....I still have a few years left to go, but that will have to wait until I retire and have more time.
