Hi all, first post.

I'm planning on buying a remington 700 PSS in .223 (because A my local range is only 300 yards and B the ammo is cheaper, i will be home loading)

Now thats out of the way, i was planning to get the 2.5-16x50 but the shop has sold out in mildot, so i was thinking about the x42, mainly i'm going to be shooting between 100-300 yards but i might go to a 1000 yard range maybe once or twice a year with 69gr heads (i know 223 isnt meant for that far) anyway i just want the freedome to be able to shoot around that distance. Have any of you shot that far with the x42 or should i get the duplex x50 (not a big fan)

Thanks

Re: Bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16x42??

i'm new to the long range game and the rifle will obviously out shoot me but I'm looking at it as an investment, so i don't want to get to the 1000 yard range when my skill level increases and find i have to buy another scope before i can even attempt the shot.

Thats the problem with this hobby, by the time you get to the 1000y range you'll want a better rifle/scope anyway haha..

The scope will be fine. Bushnell has really stepped up on their tactical line (the winning team at the USASOC match used Bushnell scopes...!!) and they have a great warranty as well. As far as equipment, the limiting factor at 1000 will probably be your rifle barrel. Usually a factory barrel won't stabilize the larger 22 cal bullets...75 and 80 grainers. If you have the right set up, it is possible to shoot great scores at 1000 yrds with iron sights. Just go to any regional 1000 yrd match and watch or watch the military shooters shoot their gas guns with iron sights....it's impressive.
I am building a 223 bolt gun as well, but will be using a Bartlien barrel and the AI 223 magazines that will run the 80 gr VLD's and a Bushnell HDMR 3.5 X21X50 which is a FF and Mil Mil scope with the Horus H59 reticle.
