CA expands red flag law by allowing employers, coworkers and others to file gun seizure

California bill AB-61 has passed the Assembly in a 56-14 vote and headed for the Senate. It would allow employers and coworkers to apply for immediate gun seizures on another employee deemed to be a "threat". Also enables other people such as school faculty and church leaders to do the same.

The implications of this are absolutely grave. Someone who has just been let go or laid off can now be deemed a "threat" and have his firearms taken away. What if you are not that popular among your work peers because you share different views? Someone can red flag you simply out of spite. And non-gun owners are not immune to this latest generation swatting tactic either. A pre-dawn police raid and the hours of questioning afterward will be enough of a PITA to deal with, not to mention the shit that may go onto your record, which can impact your future employment prospects.

Note that I said SPITE. Someone who disagrees with you on the most mundane bullshit can now fuck up your future and quality of life simply because they wish to give you hell. And understanding the very facets of human nature, it is guaranteed that these new laws will be used in such a fashion.

This is getting WAY out of control.

Thanks to the infighting within the gun community, we have gave them an inch by enabling this red flag bullshit to be passed in the first place. Now they are coming to take a mile. And more.

These laws will stay on the books with the qualifying elements being gradually expanded until anyone can be flagged and deprived of God given and Constitution-guaranteed rights without any semblance of due process.
