Can any LE in Indiana shed some more light

Re: Can any LE in Indiana shed some more light

I guess I can see both sides here. One he is still alive which is amazing but the flip side is that he's still alive... 69% sounds like the board made a compromise in his favor finding a good middle ground between 0% and 100%.

Side note: Surely there's a way to manage his pain and improve his quality of life, perhaps a surgery of some sort, something that would allow him to at least have some form of pain relief and maybe return to work. Even if it is simply riding a desk.

What would you like to know? I didn't know Fish before he was shot but I've spent some time around him since it happened. He struggles to walk, has little use of one arm and has difficulty communicating.

69% is the minimum. It sounds like the number crunchers down at the state lvl got their brilliant minds involved. This should be passed along to every FOP board statewide, to be sure they can all appeal on his behalf.

We had a police officer jump on top of the Chief of Police's desk and place his service weapon to the Chief's head and told him that, "He was going to kill him". That officer gets his full disability from PERF.

He used to piss and crap in a pie pan and mix it up and freeze it, pop it out of the pan and slide it under the Chief's door when he locked it. THIS IS TRUE!

Officer Fishburn deserves full benefits in my book.

Re: Can any LE in Indiana shed some more light

It's too bad Officer Fishburn can't get 100% benefits. However, a lot of departments are struggling in this economy, and the Pension Fund caretakers only watch their bottom dollar. He will have to take it to court to get more. Bottom line.

Unfortunately, Pension Fund boards are like insurance companies these days. They only want to pay the MINIMUM required in order to fulfill their obligation. Then, when the recipient takes it to court the judge will order 100%.

I hate to say it, but he is a victim of the system. Even though he almost died protecting that system.

It's stories like this that make you wonder what you are fighting for ... doesn't it?

It certainly has the potential to make some question just how much of their ass they are willing to hang in the breeze to get the job done. The world needs men willing to take risks, those men should be assured that if shit goes sideways on them, they (or their families) will be taken care of. Obviously, around here anyway, that isn't the case.

I was looking for first hand knowledge of the case because as we all know the media doesn't always get things straight. I forgot that Phylodog was from out that way. Thanks for putting things in the proper perspective.
