looking for a modestly priced measuring tool to check brass for expansion. It has been suggested that a blade micrometer would work. Is there anything else out there that measures to .0001, or where could one find a reasonably priced blade mic? Don't want to spend the cost of a new barrel on equipment that probably won't be picked up once load development is done.

Check ebay for a lightly used micrometer from a manufacturer with a reputation. Often, you can get older tools for a a steal compared to buying new, if you don't need the traceability.

You won't be able to accurately measure to .0001" without very good tools and techniques. .001" is what you're looking for.

You misunderstand. We're not trying to measure to .0001. Just because that is the tool's graduation, does not mean that is it's accuracy, or what we're using it for.

A used micrometer from Mitutoyo or B&S will do fine and can be had one ebay for $50 if you don't mind someone else's initials on it...
