I want to see what kind of ideas you fellas come up with for my new favorite hunting rifle.
I picked up a FNH SPR .308 about 8 years ago just as I was getting out of the Marine Corps. I bought it from a fellow marine who only put 20 rounds through it. His father was diagnosed with cancer and only had a few months to live. He needed the money to buy sister 45-70s for he and his father for one last hunting trip. When his father passed, he was going to give his father's 45-70 to his son. (touching story) He gave me a great deal on the rifle.
I want to put a scope on it worthy of the gun. I would like to be able to shoot long distance (over 500 yards and up to 1000 yards) as well as short distance (50-100 yards) for all kinds of hunting. I would like to be able to make quick dope adjustments for rapid engagements if necessary. I prefer a mil dot reticle. I am open to fixed versus variable power scopes.
I hand load my own ammunition and have fallen in love with the accubond for the hunting I do.
My budget is $1000 or less.

Thanks in advance for your input!
Happy Thanksgiving and Semper Fi!
