Cold Weather Shooting: a cleaning question....

Hi Everyone,
I typically clean my precision rig (LAR-8 Standard Operator) when groups start to open up (typically 500 or so rounds in the warmer months). Should that change during the winter?

I live in Vermont where our winter average temperature is well below freezing. My rifle sits outside for one to two hours each shooting session. My gun safe is dry (humidity controlled) but I'm still slightly concerned about condensation inside the barrel as the rifle warms.

To alleviate this concern, I've run an oily bore snake from breach to muzzle. Is that adequate or is winter the time to clean like an ocd Dr. Clean? Or, would I be fine to treat my rifle the same as in the warmer months?

Re: Cold Weather Shooting: a cleaning question....

Good idea to lightly oil all the plain steel parts after it condensates, moisture's moisture, if you forget it probably won't be the end of the world, I was too lazy many times in AK without harm. But I always let them condesate and dry in the open to prevent a micro-enviroment in the gunsafe. No need for OCD cleaning. Easy on the oil and use a very "thin" one for the moving parts and beware of residual build up as it will gum up the works in the cold.
