Current feedback on the Sako TRG 22?

I've been doing a lot of research on my next purchase and have settled on the Sako TRG 22. I'm looking for your thoughts on the rifle and any recommendations on where to buy are greatly appreciated.

Specifically, is a brake necessary? I shoot a lot at an indoor range and am concerned about driving others crazy with the noise. Does it really tame recoil that much and how loud is it indoors? Also, is the Sako bipod really that much better than a Harris given the huge price difference? I'll be mainly doing benchrest shooting 50-300 yards. I plan to put a Nightforce BR series scope on it.

I'm shooting a TRG22, and I love it. The brake[ I've got a NEAR brake] are LOUD, and not <span style="font-style: italic">needed</span>, though if I were taking a class or something where I was shooting hundreds of rounds a day, I might consider putting it back on[ its off now].

I've got a SAKO bipod, a Harris, and a VersaPod. If you are mainly planning to shoot off a bench, the SAKO would be my last choice. The Harris would be my first for your needs.

Great rifle, you will love it.

BTW, look at a scope base from NEAR. They are a great piece of kit.

Thanks for the great feedback. When you say the brake is not needed, how much does it tame the recoil? Just curious. Also, do you know anything about the factory Sako mount?

People shoot high power rifles all the time at the indoor ranges where I shoot.

People shoot high power rifles all the time at the indoor ranges where I shoot. </div></div>

Seems like a waste of good ammo and a good barrel, but whatever floats your boat.

I don't know about you but I don't enjoy sitting or laying in snow when the weather is in the teens to shoot outdoors during winter. If the choice is shooting or not, I'll take the indoor range during the winter. That floats my boat.

good friend of mine won his first ever competition a couple weeks ago with a TRG22. Factory BR class, shot a 246. Not too shappy, and that was with the Sako bipod.

My other friend that invited us won the Open division, 250-24x. I am glad I only went to watch.....

What is it about shooting a long-range tactical rifle indoors that floats your boat...I'm just curious? Given the choice I would just dress appropriately and shoot the rifle where it was meant to be shot.

You will not make many friends shooting that indoors with a brake.

Outdoor ranges around here in the winter time are difficult to reach, it's VERY cold, and I can shoot indoor comfortably until it gets a bit warmer. Nothing mysterious about it. It's like running on a tread mill at a gym--sometimes it's just more convenient and you still get the exercise even though it's not as interesting. It's that simple. Thus, the question about the brake which it's clear I don't need for a TRG in .308. Now hopefully off to the range this weekend to prepare for warmer days not too far down the road when I can shoot outside at longer distances. Do I love shooting at shorter distances? No. However, I prefer it to nothing.

The rifle is HEAVY. One does not need a brake for this rifle in .308. I have one and the extra noise is not worth the lessened recoil. For bench work the Harris bipod is much less floppy than the Sako version. You will need a 6 or 6A adapter...whichever is for the euro spec rail. I use the Harris for F-Class with the TRG22 and much prefer it to the Sako, but like the Sako bipod for the field. I use the Badger 20 moa rail on mine. Like that I can move optics to the same rail on other rifles. Alex at Euro has the Badger. The best buy is the Warne rail. Know you will enjoy the TRG. AG in NC
